"I hired this company for a clearing of a lot approximately 1/2 acre, it was to clear the property for a new construction, they remove trees, roots, stumps also removed an old slab and other things in the property. The work that they provided was outstanding, very professional , high quality work. They were flexible with a change I requested and willing to help. Heriberto was very knowledgeable and was very attentive to details. I really appreciate all the great information they provided. The property looks amazing. All that they said they would do, they did in a timely manner. The work was prompt, and accurate. I will continue to recommend this company and if I need any additional work will definitely call them again."

"Very smooth experience. The shingles and dumpster arrived before the crew. They came in the morning and finished the job by dark. A larger house would probably take more time. The next day the dumpster was removed and the county passed the inspection."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

The best type of soil to build on is a mixture of sand and clay, known as loam soil. Loam soil has the best combination of these soil types to build a foundation on. The clay particles help with water retention, so it won’t erode like sandy soil might, and the sandy particles help with drainage, so you won’t see unsafe soil expansion or have an increased risk of leaks from water sitting against your foundation.

The physical constraints of hand-drilling a well limit the depth you can achieve. Manually digging with picks and shovels may only lead to shallow wells of up to 60 feet in depth. To reach greater depths, you need more specialized equipment. The diameter of your well and the tools you’re using will determine how far down you can dig.

Digging a well can cost between $20 and $25,000, depending on your needs. If you’re looking to dig a well yourself, all you need is a shovel. If you’re looking to have a well drilled by a professional, you can expect to pay around $15 to $30 per foot. The total cost of drilling a well will average to $5,500.
