"Pedro Gomes and his crew: Alan and Gabriel were excellent. Excavated an area 25x15ft by 3 inch and installed playground mulch. Done in 3 hrs. They had to use shovel and wheel barrel since big excavator would not fit through backyard gate. Than wheel barrel all the 4?yards of mulch in to fill the area. Price was fair in my opinion for this hard hands on labor. I will definitely hire this crew again if I have another project"

"We purchased a home that had been neglected for years. Cherrywood came in and completely cleaned up the place. They removed all the old furniture: took out bags of old clothing: emptied every drawer and closet of clothes, office supplies and kitchen utensils; took pictures off the walls. They even took items left in the washing machine and dishwasher. They removed two dozen large planters around the pool and rusted pool furniture. They took all the dishes and kitchen equipment ( which they donate to charity). They took ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Lorenzo and his crew were outstanding. Talk about a work ethic. They would not let us lift a finger to help. It took three trips to the dump to get rid of everything. They took the "House from Hell" and turned it into a comfortable living space. We could not thank them enough."

"Very smooth experience. The shingles and dumpster arrived before the crew. They came in the morning and finished the job by dark. A larger house would probably take more time. The next day the dumpster was removed and the county passed the inspection."

"Chris arrived with his crew and replaced two drain lines from the gutters that were plugged with roots. The job was hampered by roots from an oak tree. These lines had been there for twelve years. They installed new lines and also added soil the fill in washed out areas, cleaned the area. They completed the job and left before the storms arrived. Thanks Chris for a great job!!"

"I recently hired Murray Outdoor for a sod installation job. Communication before, during, and after the project exceeded my expectations. The team did a great job with the installation and post install cleanup. I definitely recommend their services for anyone needing help with landscaping projects."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Yes, trenchers can go through gravel. Gravel is made up of smaller, softer rocks that certain trenchers are able to cut through. Just be sure to use a rock wheel trencher or chain trencher, both of which are made to cut through rocky landscapes and gravel pathways without dulling the teeth or chain.

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Trenchers can dig holes as narrow as 4 inches or as wide as 4 feet. Check the specifications of the trencher you rent or buy to determine how wide it will cut into the landscape. Better yet, let the excavation company know how wide you’d like the trench to be, and they can help you choose the right trencher for the job (or do it for you).

Consultation with the local government helps identify necessary permits, avoid project delays or legal issues, and protect project integrity.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.
