"Pedro Gomes and his crew: Alan and Gabriel were excellent. Excavated an area 25x15ft by 3 inch and installed playground mulch. Done in 3 hrs. They had to use shovel and wheel barrel since big excavator would not fit through backyard gate. Than wheel barrel all the 4?yards of mulch in to fill the area. Price was fair in my opinion for this hard hands on labor. I will definitely hire this crew again if I have another project"

Small jobs welcome

"hired James to level an 1,800-square-foot area and spread stone, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From the beginning, James was responsive, handled ordering the stone, coordinated the delivery, and made the entire process easy. All I had to do was explain what I wanted, and he took care of everything else. On the day of the project, James arrived on time and took the time to walk through the job with me to make sure he fully understood exactly what I wanted before getting started. I really appreciated his attention to detail and his commitment to getting the job done right the first time. Overall, James was professional, reliable, and delivered exactly what he promised. The finished project turned out great, and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. I will definitely be contacting him for future projects and highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Water lines are buried at various depths, depending on the type of line. For example, most sprinkler lines are buried between four and 12 inches underground. On the other hand, water mains usually sit between one and 3 feet below ground. However, they can go even deeper in cold climates to prevent freezing.

Directional drilling is complex and requires training to use the advanced machinery. It can be challenging to monitor the position of the drill since there’s no direct line of sight. Directional drilling can also be more expensive with a cost of $10 to $30 per linear foot compared to $5 to $12 per linear foot for trenching.

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

The best method for digging a trench depends on the scope of the project. For a short, shallow trench (less than 2 feet deep) in light, soft soil, digging by hand may be sufficient. However, digging by hand is labor-intensive, so consider the effort required. A machine trencher is the better option for longer trenches (over 100 feet), deeper ones, or when dealing with difficult soil conditions, such as rocky or hard ground, or obstructions like tree roots. A machine can save significant time and energy in these situations.

Excavations take a few days or up to a few weeks. The time it takes to excavate an area depends on the size of the area, the type of soil, the type of excavator, and even the time of year, since winter can make digging up the ground more difficult.
