"Pedro Gomes and his crew: Alan and Gabriel were excellent. Excavated an area 25x15ft by 3 inch and installed playground mulch. Done in 3 hrs. They had to use shovel and wheel barrel since big excavator would not fit through backyard gate. Than wheel barrel all the 4?yards of mulch in to fill the area. Price was fair in my opinion for this hard hands on labor. I will definitely hire this crew again if I have another project"

"Jeremy reached out as soon as I had completed my general request for bids. He met with me that afternoon, reviewed the job, provided some professional input and gave me a quote. Had 2 large oak stumps ground down along with a couple of smaller stumps and all within a couple of hours. The work area was cleaned up before he left. Jeremy is very courteous, knowledgeable and professional. His company will be the first I call for future landscaping needs."

"Very smooth experience. The shingles and dumpster arrived before the crew. They came in the morning and finished the job by dark. A larger house would probably take more time. The next day the dumpster was removed and the county passed the inspection."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The physical constraints of hand-drilling a well limit the depth you can achieve. Manually digging with picks and shovels may only lead to shallow wells of up to 60 feet in depth. To reach greater depths, you need more specialized equipment. The diameter of your well and the tools you’re using will determine how far down you can dig.

In most areas, you will need a permit for excavation work, even for projects that only involve grading or yard leveling. Permit requirements depend on your local government and the scope of the project, but they are especially common for significant digging or work that could affect utilities or public property. These permits help protect the local topography and prevent drainage issues. An experienced excavation company will typically know whether permits are needed and can often handle the process of pulling and closing them for you. You can also verify permit requirements by contacting your local building department and describing your project.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

Yes, chipmunk holes may have two or more entrances. Chipmunks can create an entire network of burrows. Having multiple entrances makes it easier for them when trying to escape from a predator, such as a snake, or if an entrance collapses due to flooding. Each entrance leads to the nesting chamber underground, which is where the chipmunk spends the majority of its time sleeping.

Prior to excavation, you should prepare the dig site and call 311 before you sign anything.

To get your site ready for excavation, you should move anything in the area that isn’t affixed to the land. You can save money on the excavation by removing hardscaping, including walkways, decks, concrete patios, and paver patios.

Before you carry out any digging, you should call 311 to confirm that there are no utility lines running through your excavation site. Skipping this step could lead to severe injury and property damage if your excavator hits a water, sewage, or gas line.
