"An honest review. Andres started out by quoting my full apartment remodel, he gave a fair price and a good timeline. I made it clear asking him in person on a specific time frame the project would be complete so I can plan my work schedule accordingly, it exceeded drastically, leaving me in a tough situation and losing out of months of rent. Upon demolition, his team broke my main water pipe and then left for the day, leaving us without water for the night. He fixed this the next day or so. During construction I found myself sweeping my driveway almost daily and finding nails and screws, a certain flat tire hazard. The lack of clear communication was very troublesome. Without having my 100% consent, he began to demo a project that I wanted to talk about before. He tore up the baseboards without having confirmed with me. After a long project and many other road bumps along the way, the remodel was finally finished. Upon my tenant moving in, they went to take a shower and the adjacent room flooded with inches of water. Causing potential rot and mold in the future. Andres sent someone and they had pierced the shower pipes with drywall screws. This was fixed. Next the brand new kitchen sink drain was leaking steadily, Andres had it “fixed” by tightening a nut, then a week or so later, it was leaking again. He then promised he would replace the whole drain. Without contacting me when he was coming, he came and put tape on it. It is still leaking. The outside door he installed was also found leaking water from the outside due to improper installation. I have tried to contact Andres, but no answer. Everything is brand new in this apartment and now I have to hire someone to come and fix his mistakes. I never write reviews because I have never been wronged like this for a large amount of money, so I’ll take the time and help others. Hopefully this helps someone when making a choice who to hire for a project."

Personal Touch Contracting can design that perfect space you’ve been dreaming of. Whether it is an indoor space like a library or den, or an outdoor area for family cookouts, you can count on us. We have also partnered with a state of the art local showroom that can help you design and choose the perfect combination of products to help you bring your project vision to a concrete reality.

"DO NOT use Personal Touch Contracting. My master bathroom remodel took 9 weeks to be completed after Jeff stated it was a 4-week project. There was no “personal touch” to their services. Communication was minimal, details were overlooked frequently and had to be brought to Jeff’s attention and overall, the quality of work was lacking. My husband and I decided to fix the final painting issues (horrible texture job on the wall and a small hole in the wall behind the toilet) ourselves rather than have anyone from this company return to do the work. Jeff had to be pressed to accept any responsibility for the many wrong turns in this job. He allowed hundreds of dollars of materials to be ordered that were not needed, although once really confronted with this case, he did admit he did not review the invoice from the tile company before I made the purchase and offered to pay for the overages. He also approved a tub filler to be ordered which did not work in the space and cost several days of the project time waiting for the correct filler to be ordered and arrive. I cannot stress enough, there are many contracting companies out there, please make a better choice then I did and do not use Personal Touch Contracting."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile costs vary by material; for example, ceramic tends to be more affordable than stone. These influence installation timelines and skill requirements.

Yes, it’s always a good idea to keep a box or two of spare tiles after a home renovation project. Tiles can crack from improper installation, heavy foot traffic, and impact from drops. Having some extra tile on hand can make replacement fast, easy, and affordable. Plus, some manufacturers might discontinue particular colors or styles, and slight variations in tile colors between batches could mean mismatched tiles even if your product isn’t discontinued. Having a few spare tiles in storage can help avoid these issues, as well.

You have creative freedom when it comes to your tile trim. If, however, you are considering skipping tile trim, please think twice about that. It is good practice to install tile trim, whether on walls or flooring. Think, too, about the aesthetic you are going for and choose a trim type and color that will help enhance the space.

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.
