"Outstanding. I noticed the other day that my front porch light had dropped out of the recessed receptacle and was hanging by its wires. I quickly contacted several electricians from Angie's list and only heard back from two of them. Both were pleasant and helpful. One could not get to me for about 7-9 days. The other (Phaze Electric) had me on their schedule the next day. Jerome showed up early and quickly assessed what was needed. He obtained the necessary part from Lowe's and was back in a flash to remove the old housing and install the new one. I also used Phaze Electric a couple of years ago to hang ceiling fans on my back porch and they did an excellent job then, too. Phaze Electric will be the company I call in the future for all my electrical needs. I trust them to do a great job at a reasonable price."

"Leonard went above and beyond the typical electrical service. He thoughtfully looked at the project and helped us save money while getting more than we could have asked for. He installed lighting on our patio in addition to adding an outlet there and in our laundry room had to wire an outlet from attic to closet so that I could hang a dyson vacuum that needed a charging station. I thought it couldn't be done but he showed me that it was possible. I'm so thankful."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.

Short circuits can cause significant damage to electrical appliances, bodily harm, and potentially death to humans. For this reason, they are a serious occurrence. If you’re unable to find and fix a short circuit on your own, you must reach out to a licensed electrician for help.

There are various reasons why an electrical outlet can stop working. You might have to do some detective work to understand whether it’s a problem with the attached appliance, the outlet itself, or a faulty breaker. Sometimes, old age or loose wiring are to blame; other times, it can be as simple as an overloaded circuit tripping the system and cutting power. If you’re troubleshooting doesn’t solve the mystery or repairs, or replacements are required, it’s time to call in the pros.

The standard voltage for United States power outlets isn’t shared around the world, and neither is the shape of the power connector. This is why you need travel adapters when spending time abroad. Where the United States typically uses 110/120V outlets, outlets in Europe typically use 220/240V. Power outlets can vary in other ways around the world, too. Not everyone uses the 60Hz frequency, for example, and not everyone even uses AC power in outlets. Always do your research when traveling to see what you need.

You should always turn off a breaker whenever electrical work is being done. This step can prevent electrical shock and injury. Also, if a breaker is repeatedly tripping, it can mean there is an electrical overload, and it should be shut off. You should contact an electrician to figure out the cause. Make sure to review how to turn off your circuit breaker safely if you do it yourself, and follow safety precautions to avoid severe injuries.
