Overseeding is an ideal annual lawn care practice for grass fighting drought, disease, weeds, or pest issues.

Power seeding can be worth it if your existing lawn is looking sparse or patchy. Power seeding can quickly and effectively plant new grass seeds and help grow a thicker lawn. But if your lawn is in pretty good health but could use a little more TLC through dethatching, fertilizing, weeding, or aerating, you may not need to spend money on power seeding costs.

If the grass is dead, you cannot bring it back to life. However, you can grow new grass in its place or try the methods mentioned above to revive the grass if it isn’t entirely dead. You can expect St. Augustine grass to come back after moderate droughts, but it will suffer significant nutrient loss after an extended period of drought.

If you use a starter fertilizer designed for this purpose, you can overseed and fertilize at the same time. If you opt to use a fertilizer for established grass or one with a weed control component, it's best to wait at least four to eight weeks after seed application to allow the new grass to take hold and establish itself.
