Customers say: Quick response

"JJ was very professional and thorough. I only had a week to get my inspection done and not only did he fit me in, but he expedited the report to make sure I had the information I needed on time. Best of all, of a dozen inspectors I contacted, JJ is the only inspector I found that offers infrared imaging of the property which can reveal hidden issues that cannot be seen by the naked eye."

"I'm working out of state and this is the roofer I would recommend to do a good job and they were very respectful to my property manager who also happens to be a retired general contractor. Brent knows his product and does what he says he'll do. Wanda was very responsive to my concerns and worked with me on the schedule. It's been a year since I've the roof was installed and I have had a chance to finally inspect it for myself. It looks great and no leaks."

"I called them all and spent several months deciding before I chose Shore up. Why? I had a lot of questions and Eric either picked up the phone when I called or returned my texts & calls promptly. He calmed my fears and answered every question (some 2x). They never sent me pressured texts about discounts from salespeople I’d never met. Shore -Up’s bid was competitive but the super helpful staff that seem to love the company sealed the deal for me. Lifting a house up is a big expensive but necessary job. Its a tough decision that has no vanity pay off like a new paint job or kitchen remodel. I really appreciate their staff particularly Clay, Wade, Zach, & Adlai. They kept me informed throughout the process. They rescued my old home and treated it with care. I feel confident recommending this company to anyone on the fence about raising or stabilizing a foundation. They are genuine Home Savers that care about the quality of their work and treat the people they help with respect."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Generally, foundation cracks and repair are not covered by standard homeowners insurance policies. This type of damage is often considered normal wear and tear or a result of poor maintenance, which is the homeowner's responsibility. For example, damage caused by settling, shifting soil, or drainage issues is typically excluded.

However, there are exceptions. Coverage may apply if the foundation damage is a direct result of a covered peril, such as a house fire, a burst pipe, vandalism, or a vehicle accident. Coverage for natural disasters like earthquakes and floods often requires a separate, specific policy or add-on.

Knowing what to expect during a mold inspection can help make the process easier. Prepare by closing doors and windows for 48 hours, turning off HVAC systems for at least two hours, and avoiding disinfectant chemicals for at least 48 hours.

The mold inspection process takes between 24 and 48 hours. Your professional will check walls, fireplaces, air ducts, vents, and windows for visible spores. They will also take an outdoor base air sample. Your pro will send these samples to a lab for testing and advise you on the findings.

If you hire a dedicated asbestos inspector near you in addition to your local home inspector, it will cost between $200 and $800. If, however, your general home inspector happens to be certified as an asbestos inspector, they can charge you a smaller fee and tack on the cost to the home inspection. In general, home inspectors do not do physical testing, but will provide a visual assessment so you know what you are working with.

Generally, no. Most homeowners insurance policies will not cover polybutylene pipes because they are considered defective and high-risk. Damage from these pipes, such as leaks, may not be covered as it often doesn't fall under the category of "sudden and accidental" damage. Some insurance companies may even threaten to terminate a policy if the pipes are not replaced. While you should review your personal policy for specific details, you will most likely need to pay for the pipe replacement yourself. It is advisable to prioritize repiping your home to avoid costly, uncovered water damage.

You can call a professional septic company to inspect your tank and leach field if you suspect too much weight has been on it. An inspection is a good idea if you recently purchased the home and the septic system isn’t working like you expected. The professionals can determine whether a previous owner damaged it by placing too much weight on it.
