"I am an architect who has done work for a certain large, well-known theme related company with the logo of a mouse. To say I have high standards is an understatement. I am also very picky about everything being "just so." I wanted a house full of unique design ideas like a wall full of vertically orientated tile (not the typical horizontal tile). My frame-less shower door was not to just have a handle, but alsoa towel bar. I wanted grey tile, not tan tile and yes, if it comes to the house for install and looks tan in the light of the room, its going back to the store. Most importantly, I wanted VERY complicated counter tops, with double thickness and a waterfall edge. To say that I am a difficult client could be considered an understatement. As Doctors make the worst patients, Architects make for the worst Contractor clients!
I didn't just want a renovation, I wanted an entirely new interior! Beyond that, I am a young architect so while I knew what I wanted in some instances, Pete was able to use his expertise to recommend some additional upgrades which made the renovation polished! I knew I wanted everything that was gold (my house was built in the late 70s and had gold fixtures, door hinges and knobs everywhere!) to be silver. I wanted walls knocked down, others built and floors raised to be level. I had a pesky, unpermitted porch to permit and bring up to electrical, mechanical and exterior envelope code. I had four bedrooms of doors, closets and hinges to be re-painted and replaced. I had three bathrooms worth of vanities, counter tops, tile, tubs and showers that needed a complete overhaul. I enlarged the kitchen by eight feet and re-organized the layout. Three thousand square feet of floors were changed from fake Mexican tile to sleek and modern dark ceramic tile that looks like wood. Two fireplaces had to be completely overhauled inside and out. Black tile removed and replaced with Carrera Marble. The house had to be completely re-plumbed and all the odds and ends on the home inspection taken care of.
Pete and Five Star Remodeling handled it all spectacularly! Always conscious of the budget and careful with the timeline. Pete was able to make recommendations such as re-texturing of the ceiling and walls that made the house look completely brand new. No longer were the unevenness of the 36 year old walls noticeable. It was almost as if the house was built the week before we moved in. Pete also recommended removing soffits that dated the house, giving it a more modern touch (and allowing my Husband's tall self to look more proportioned in the space). He recommended modernizing the grates for the AC... something I would never have thought of but made the world of a difference.
Pete's extensive experience and knowledge of both materials and time for install allowed our budget to stretch farther than we ever thought it could. He is not only extremely professional in his skillset but also very personable! A pleasure to work with! He is easy to contact and responds to all concerns immediately. As a young, first time renovator, Pete was able to help me feel 100% comfortable with the entire renovation process, beginning to end. Not only would I recommend him to the average person, but I will even recommend him to my architecture friends.
