"I received a phone call very quickly. Gary came out that day to address my issue. I had a new vacuum installed within a week. Excellent customer service every time I called. After installation all my questions were answered and I was assured if I had any other questions all I had to do was call . It was a great experience."

"The gentlemen at Lion Heart Home Improvement replaced a ceiling fan. They went above and beyond my expectations. I took a picture of the fan that needed to be replaced and sent it to them. I was unsure about the best places to find a replacement. However, they gave me several suggestions of which were very helpful. I was able to find a replacement that was a great match to what I had before. They even picked up the fan for me! Talk about going the extra mile! They worked very diligently from start to finish. I was very impressed at how punctual they were. And, I was immediately met with such good manners. That is so refreshing in these days. The gentlemen worked until the fan was installed to perfection. I was impressed by their determination to make every detail just right. The price that I paid was well worth it. I highly recommend Lion Heart Home Improvement. I will definitely call them again for my next project!"

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

For the average-size house, a central vacuum installation usually takes one day of work by a team of professionals. Large houses may take two or more days. But if you are planning on a DIY project, it’s likely to take much longer. We suggest getting a few estimates for a project this big and fully understanding all the requirements before you make a decision about installation. Certain parts of your house may not be usable during the installation, and you may want to make other plans.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.
