"I’ve been a plumbing contractor for 20 years and have known Kyle for 30 years. I had Titan Heating/Kyle recently in my home. We had him replace the a/c system in its entirety. Not only was the job professional, it is hands down the cleanest and tidiest work I’ve seen in my area. It was an honer to have him here and trust him in my home. Having such a skilled tradesman around is comforting thought. Thanks Kyle!!"

Small jobs welcome

"AdvantaClean was hired to clean the air ducts and dryer vent at our home. We had done several renovations since buying the home and needed the ducts cleaned from sheetrock and concrete dust. The team did an excellent. job. They were professional, courteous, responsible and thoughtful. They protected the environment and cleaned up afterwards. They sent us pictures of the before and after so we could see exactly what was done. They were on time and worked diligently to complete the process in a timely fashion. And never heard a complaint even though the ambient temperature was almost 100 degrees. I can't imagine what it was like in the attic! Their cost was less than 2 other companies we had quote the job. Thanks to all the guys. I'll recommend you to anyone who asks."

"System not cooling. Service charge:$99. Reasonable for Sunday call. Replaced 35/5 MFD capacitor...$202.... capacitor is $39 on Amazon . Serviced with 2 lbs R410 refrigerant:$253. 25 lb bottle of R410 is $125 on Amazon / $5 per pound. Total $566. No analysis on why refrigerant was low or leak check performed. Also informed afterward that possible problem with expansion valve too and that compressor is drawing too much current and may fail soon. System is 8 year old Trane. No problem with service performed and system cooling now but no real confidence in analysis. However cost for this service was shockingly much more than anticipated for what was needed... maybe all HVAC companies are the same regarding charges. Bottom line. Should always ask before they arrive not only cost of service call but exactly what will be done...ie. leak check, drain line cleaned, etc. and what estimated cost for charging system , replacing parts such as fan motor or compressor, etc"

"Merckle plumbing installed my well and septic tank. They did wonderful, they are fast and knowledgeable. Never had a problem out of it. They have also diagnosed and fixed my A/C issues. They put it in words I could understand and offered several solutions. Would definitely call again!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances.

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

While both have advantages, a split system is generally cheaper than a ducted one. Because they are less invasive to install, the labor costs are lower, and they can be more energy efficient. But, a ducted system might be worth the investment if you run it more frequently.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.

If your whole house is cold that’s one thing, but what if you only have a few rooms that are cold? First, you need to determine why this may be happening. A good place to start is to investigate the potential causes listed in this article—heat transfer, airflow, thermostat problems, humidity, and insulation. Once you’ve narrowed down the issue, you’d apply the same principles to the cold rooms as you would to the entire home.
