"The Arborist group responded first and arrived first. Their quote was the best too. They all asked what I wanted but TAG did it. It was completed today as well as the clean up. Both trees were trimmed to my satisfaction. They removed all the trimmings too. The 4 men were friendly, appropriately dressed and used safe first in their endeavors which is important to all of us. The best way is to start controlling tree height long before it grows too large, via careful pruning through the years. But that’s not always possible. If a tree has become too high or too large, use selective pruning to remove the most troublesome branches, one by one, without topping the tree. Gently shaping a tree like this can, over time, correct problems. You can also find growth inhibitors to spray on a tree to stop it from growing too rapidly, but use these sparingly if at all.

You can use herbicides to prevent roots from growing without killing the tree itself, however they must be used with caution. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the root and can kill off problematic roots. However, herbicides can sometimes negatively impact nearby plants, so the solution is best used sparingly.

Maple trees start the growing season by developing small groups of red flowers where the tree's fruit, the samaras, will appear in the coming weeks. Later in spring, the samaras, which many call whirlybirds or similar names, develop into single-winged seed carriers that spin when falling or drifting in the wind. 

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves. 

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

Usually, trees cannot grow back after their stump has been ground, but some very hearty types of trees can. For example, if you have a black locust or Redford pear, the grinding will need to go deep to prevent them from growing back. Ask your tree service or stump removal expert whether your tree can resprout after its stump is ground down.
