"Had to schedule this appointment twice and wasn’t initially impressed with them but the electrician was very professional and efficient. Overall was very satisfied and would use them again. They installed two light fixtures, replaced an outlet and repaired two ceiling fans that weren’t properly grounded."

"I have 2 homes and contacted Monia for "deep cleaning" including the oven. My request with such a short notice left me to believe I had no chance in getting someone out. That afternoon 2 nice Spanish speaking (no English) arrived and quickly went to work. I left them a tip, and asked that they lock the house on their way out. When I got home that evening, I was excited in hopes of what the "deep cleaning" looked like. To my dismay, the girls failed to clean the oven, one of the ceiling fans, and 1 glass table top wasn't cleaned. I emailed Monia to let her know about the oven, and she stated that she would send someone out right away. I emailed her back letting her know that wouldn't necessary...I could clean the oven myself. In my email, I also asked Monia if she could assist with another deep cleaning at my other home, and have regular follow up cleanings. Several days went by and no reply to my email. I resent the same email asking Monia to let me know about my other house, and to date, I have not heard back from her. I really wanted to give her another chance with my other home...sad I never heard back from her again."

"Customer service is huge for me, and I was really impressed by this company. Both of my AC units went out on the same day (when a different company was performing maintenance). I was scrambling to get quotes and get the install done. Everyone I talked to was friendly and helped me as best they could. I felt like everyone really cared. Matt did the quote and was so knowledgeable and friendly. T.J and John R. were the installers and they were considerate and kind, and ensured everything worked properly. The brand was not one I was familiar with, but I came to learn that was just in the US, and that they were huge globally. I was able to get better functionality than if I had gone with another provider's Trane units. We have now had the units for a month and they are so quiet, and are definitely cooling just fine. The one suggestion I would make to you, if you need a loaner unit, ask them to give/put in the ventilation duct. The person who delivered it may have just forgotten this. Overall, excellent experience, and I plan to use them for my future AC needs."

"I liked that you always got someone on the phone when you called and they stuck to their word. They came when they said they would. We thought we would have a problem when one of the workers made a hole in our ceiling, but they came back to fix it when they said they would be coming and you can’t even tell the difference. Quality workmanship! I would definitely re-hire if I needed to."

"We discussed all the things we needed and Mel provided useful information. We had a number of things done, including installing microwave, ceiling fan, ceiling and exterior fixtures, exhaust fans and shower lights in two baths, outdoor outlet, and new updated service panel. My favorite is the new backyard power outlet. I use it all the time for various projects. Mel did outstanding work and we would not hesitate to hire him again and recommend him to others."

"We are very pleased with the work of Barnhardt Construction and will definitely call them back for our next project. Chris Barnhardt and his team did an excellent job, were on time every day and kept a clean work place. All their hard work resulted in a beautiful Red Mahogany tung and groove ceiling on our Lanai and front porch. They also installed new ceiling fans and did some tile and Sheetrock work in my family room. Could not have had a more positive experience.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

Installing a ceiling fan where no wiring exists is a difficult and potentially dangerous job that should not be attempted as a DIY project. It is recommended to hire a certified electrician to build the necessary electrical infrastructure. In some areas, building codes require this work to be done by a professional to ensure safety and compliance. Due to the complexity, this type of installation is a significant job that could cost up to $2,000.

Whether you can install a ceiling fan yourself depends on if you're replacing an existing fixture or installing one where no wiring exists. If you are replacing an existing fan, an experienced DIYer may be able to do the job, which can save on labor costs. This work typically doesn’t require a permit, but there’s always a safety risk when dealing with electrical components, so hiring a pro is still a good idea, especially if you aren't handy. Keep in mind you may need a special ladder for high or vaulted ceilings. However, if you are installing a new ceiling fan where there is no current fixture, you must hire a licensed electrician. In most areas, it is required by law that a professional runs new wiring and pulls the necessary permits. Attempting to install wiring yourself can be dangerous and a code violation.

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.
