"I hired a plaster guy (not Henry) who screwed up the wall and didn't come finish it. Then I reached out to Henry and he came and finished it in a timely manner. He told me to give him a call if I had any issues with the wall and he'd fix it free of charge, unlike the previous guy."

"We had a leak from upstairs bathroom that had come through on the ceiling. They removed the damaged ceiling board, replaced it and finished to match the knockdown. I found this company through HomeAdvisor. Requested a quote on a Friday. They called me Saturday and came out. Job was done on Monday and they did an excellent job. We will be using them for other projects. Bobby who owns the company is very professional and you could tell he has done this for a long time. He knows what he is talking about."

Customers say: Quality work

"I am impressed by the thoroughness of the engineer who designed my post-and-beam replacement for a load-bearing wall. He spent several trips to, and many hours at, the property to measure, check, and re-check his measurements and calculations. The drawings created were top quality and very detailed for the design and construction of the support system. I would recommend Lotus Engineering & Construction, and engineer Mr Badkour, to anyone needing an architectural design to solve a difficult problem that must pass the scrutiny of a review board."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Drying alone can take 1 to 4 hours to dry to the touch per plaster layer, but some types of plaster take several hours longer to dry. However, this doesn’t mean the job is done because plaster doesn’t fully harden until it cures, which can take a few days to a couple of weeks. It may take even longer if you’re building a new, pretty thick plaster wall. Allow the plaster to cure before painting it.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

Depending on how much adhesive was used as well as the strength of the adhesive, you may have some drywall damage when removing a mirror. You can typically repair most drywall damage if it’s small by sanding the damaged area, applying spackle to smooth the damaged section so it’s flush with the rest of the wall, and repainting the area.

You can skim coat plaster, but it’s better to repair the plaster itself. A skim coat is a thin coat of drywall joint compound spread over the surface of a wall. The result is a flat finish that looks pleasing, but part of the appeal of plaster is its imperfections and aesthetic. Skim coating is best when limited to drywall applications.

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.
