Small jobs welcome

"It went well beyond my expectations. We went with pavers rather than concrete. Joe gave us a good estimate. He stuck to the budget and the timeline. The work Joe did for us is a work of art. Beautiful. Pavers cost more than concrete but worth every penny."

Customers say: Quality work

"I had a great experience with Low Cost Concrete! Terrance came in with the lowest bid by far, which initially concerned me, but he did a great job on my driveway extension, which also included tearing out and replacing a portion of the existing driveway. He was courteous, professional, and flexible with my scheduling needs, and my wife was complimentary about his crew, which was a bonus. We have had work crews at times in the past who were loud or who used "colorful" language, but she said that they were cheerful and respectful, and not disruptive. I will definitely use Terrance again if I have future concrete projects."

"Alpha Foundations came out to my residence to raise/fill in the foundation on my front porch, back porch and cement decking around my pool. Dylan and Tory were very professional, as was Jake, who came out to do my estimate. They did their job efficiently and quickly. They also made sure to clean up after themselves. They answered any and all of my questions and went over all that they had done with me when they were done. I highly recommend them."

"We called and David came out to meet with us to discuss the landscaping work we had in mind and provide us with a quote. David was professional, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He provided us with a very reasonable quote. After reading numerous reviews for his business, we called back and asked him to go ahead and put us on the schedule. He advised us of a date. David and his partner worked hard and had the work done in one day. David had even called me from the nursery before purchasing the plants to discuss what sizes were available, how they looked and the cost. The plants were healthy and gorgeous. Our yard looks absolutely beautiful! We couldn't be more pleased with our decision to have Aldo's do our landscaping. We plan to work with David in the future for landscaping in the backyard."

"I can’t recommend Cornerstone enough! Completely changed the look of the whole house when we redid our driveway and patio with them. Great communication, always easy to reach, and very happy with the outcome. I would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"I'm glad I contacted Kent for my relatively small project to install a brick paver walkway. He was responsive throughout, charged a fair price, and the work exceeded my expectations."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.

Drilling into brick or mortar requires the use of a masonry drill bit. Masonry drill bits appear similar to standard drill bits except for the leading tip of the bit. The tip has a bulky carbide arrow-shaped end slightly larger than the rest of the bit shaft. Standard or high-speed drill bits designed for making holes in wood or metal don’t have the ruggedness or design shape you need to drill into brick. They may not go through the brick at all, and if they do, they’re more likely to overheat, crack, or dull before you finish drilling.

Drilling into brick doesn’t have to be a dangerous project if you prep and approach it with the right tools and techniques, but it does come with risks if it’s not done correctly. It can lead to significant issues, such as damaging the brick or affecting the wall’s structural integrity. Applying too much force can crack or chip the brick, while incorrect placement might compromise its load-bearing strength.

Modern brick homes have a brick facade over standard framing and sheathing, so the brick offers minimal added structural stability. A home with traditional brick construction is more durable than a stick-built home, as the double-layer brick walls and rebar resist higher lateral wind loads and support heavier loads up top, as well.

No, you shouldn’t lay bricks directly on dirt. While it might seem like a shortcut, it leads to a patio that shifts, sinks, and becomes a maintenance headache. Dirt expands, contracts, and erodes—none of which mix well with long-term stability. To build something that lasts, excavate the topsoil, compact a layer of crushed gravel, and add a coarse sand-setting bed. This layered base gives your bricks proper support, allows drainage, and helps block weeds from creeping through. Cutting corners here just means you’ll spend more time—and money—repairing your brick patio later.
