Small jobs welcome

"It went well beyond my expectations. We went with pavers rather than concrete. Joe gave us a good estimate. He stuck to the budget and the timeline. The work Joe did for us is a work of art. Beautiful. Pavers cost more than concrete but worth every penny."

Customers say: Quality work

"I had a great experience with Low Cost Concrete! Terrance came in with the lowest bid by far, which initially concerned me, but he did a great job on my driveway extension, which also included tearing out and replacing a portion of the existing driveway. He was courteous, professional, and flexible with my scheduling needs, and my wife was complimentary about his crew, which was a bonus. We have had work crews at times in the past who were loud or who used "colorful" language, but she said that they were cheerful and respectful, and not disruptive. I will definitely use Terrance again if I have future concrete projects."

"Alpha Foundations came out to my residence to raise/fill in the foundation on my front porch, back porch and cement decking around my pool. Dylan and Tory were very professional, as was Jake, who came out to do my estimate. They did their job efficiently and quickly. They also made sure to clean up after themselves. They answered any and all of my questions and went over all that they had done with me when they were done. I highly recommend them."

"Windows and Siding Install Suncoast Windows and Siding is a group of individuals who are highly professional, efficient, and transparent. From my first meeting with Aaron Bauer, one of the managing partners, I could tell there was a lot of expertise and experience in this company. My vintage 1950s house had not had any exterior remodeling (except roof) in over 20 years. Aaron not only thoroughly explained the process, he also sent to the house specific members of his team to assess all work and potential problems before I signed the contract. While I did not seek competing estimates on the siding (since I wanted the same company for both jobs), the cost of the windows was very competitive compared to other estimates I obtained for comparison. The window installation was done with speed and precision. The team, led by Roger, arrived about 9 a.m., and by 3:30, all 17 of my windows were removed and replaced, and with hardly any mess left behind. The process of replacing the siding was handled with similar expertise and detailed care by Dwayne, Greg, and Susan, who are as equally wonderful people as they are masters of their craft. The work they did was nothing short of transformative, and we now have undoubtedly the best-looking house on the street! My wife and I are so pleased."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is normal to see some minor hairline cracks in brick or mortar over time, often due to natural foundation settling. However, not all cracks are harmless. You should be concerned and contact a masonry professional for an inspection if you notice cracks that are getting wider or longer, or if new ones keep appearing. Other serious warning signs that can indicate significant structural or foundation damage include large vertical cracks (especially those that widen as they go up), stair-step cracks, L-shaped cracks, and deep horizontal cracks. Factors like temperature changes, moisture, and structural loading can also cause cracks to form or worsen.

According to the Earthquake Country Alliance—a public and private alliance in California that works to improve earthquake and tsunami readiness—reports that unreinforced masonry, such as stone, bricks, and hollow clay tiles, is more susceptible to earthquake damage. The mortar between bricks isn’t as stable as other building materials and methods.

Yes, it is usually possible to repair a damaged brick mailbox. A professional brick mason or masonry contractor can perform the repairs. They can assess the damage, provide an estimate, and help you determine if the repair is worthwhile based on the mailbox's value and the extent of the damage. The repair process may involve sourcing replacement bricks and mortar. Damaged bricks can be cut out and replaced, or the mortar joints can be cut out and retucked. It's important to note that the new mortar may differ in color from the original. If the mailbox insert itself is damaged, it can typically be cut out and replaced as well. If your brick mailbox has been completely destroyed, you should check with your local building code enforcement office before rebuilding, as some areas do not allow brick mailboxes due to the potential hazard they pose to drivers.

Brick stain doesn’t peel or chip and is much more durable than painting. That’s because the staining is absorbed into the brick instead of lingering on the surface as paint does. The color retains even under extreme weather conditions. Therefore, brick stain will save you a lot of time and cost on maintenance in the long run.

Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to stone houses. They are slow to build and the materials are pricey, both of which balloon the total cost. Stone walls require a more robust foundation, which costs more to install. Running plumbing, electrical, and HVAC through a stone house is much more difficult too, so homeowners need to seriously consider if the aesthetic benefit is worth the cost of building with stone. One of the questions to ask a masonry contractor is if a similar aesthetic can be achieved with another material.
