"Jacob was exceptionally responsive and communicative and did fantastic work. We had a short timeline to get the drywall repair done, and he worked within our schedule. Because he is local, he came 3 separate times to mud the wall and sand it until it was right. He was always on time and very dependable. The repair job looks great. I will definitely use him for future work and based on his photos on social media, I will ask him to bid on any remodels we might do in our new home."

"Professional group of guys that take pride in their work. Tony took the lead on this project and he was really awesome to work with over the week we had our siding replaced. The job was thoroughly explained and updates were regularly given, we were kept in the loop during the project. Project was completed quickly and the guys really did an awesome job. I will be recommending this company to neighbors, friends and family. Thanks guys!"

"The whole process from estimate to completion went smoothly. Elmo let us know what was needed, the anticipated time frame and they delivered. It was great to have him check in at the beginning and end of each day. The workers were polite and respectful of our home. I wholeheartedly recommend Chemo's. We are actually planning the next part of our project with them now. Karen Rowe"

"If there were six stars to choose from, that would be the rating I would give for the service provided. They were efficient, on time, and had a very professional and friendly personality, doing an amazing job repairing my ceiling. I will be using them for future handyman projects!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.
