Smith Remodeling Services, Inc. is a family business, owned and managed by Mark and Lisa Smith. Both Mark and Lisa are Bradenton/Sarasota natives with over 25 years' experience. Our customers continue to refer Smith Remodeling because they consistently provide excellent customer service and quality craftsmanship at reasonable rates. Estimates for work are always free of cost, and potential customers will always work with Mark or Lisa directly. Smith Remodeling is licensed and insured for interior renovations including: tile installation, cabinetry installation, carpentry, painting, drywall repairs and installation, door installation, flooring, general repairs. When other services such as plumbing and electrical are required, the proper licensed contractors will perform those services and pull the necessary permits.

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling
This was our second project with Smith Remodeling (see review of 3/22/20) – this time a complete kitchen and bath renovation. Once again, we got superior workmanship, quality materials and great communication at a fair price. We were away for the summer, but we knew from our first experience we could invite Lisa, Mark and their crew into our home with confidence. Smith uses only its own crew, no subs, and has a great network of suppliers for cabinets, tile, countertops, fixtures, shower enclosures and whatever else you need. Lisa coordinates and schedules them all. Once work began, Lisa was in steady communication via text, email or phone. She sent photos almost every day. If she had a question, she consulted us before proceeding. If we had questions, she answered them promptly. The job was done in less than a month. The results were beautiful. This small company is in high demand with good reason.

Horrible. Leak in bathroom which they denied was there until I had to pull a baseboard. They had to pull the vanity and fix the leak but never came back to finish the job with replacement of a new cabinet. No preparation/leveling was done to subfloor prior to new engineered hardwood being installed. Result was floor that moved and squeaked in some areas. Also did not lay boards in a random pattern which resulted in groupings of like boards that looked terrible. They tried for months to tell us they were working with their insurance to have the floor replaced. They ended up cutting off communications with us and we were forced to hire a lawyer. Long story shorter, they would not offer restitution for their faulty work. After a year of trying to resolve the problem, we were forced to replace the flooring out of our own pocket at $30K. They have no integrity or live up to their guarantee of quality and customer satisfaction. Worst experience we ever had with a contractor.

"We never denied the leak. There was a pin hole leak that we repaired (after it passed inspection) and we purchased a new vanity to replace the damaged one. The owner had buyer's remorse about the floor that she purchased. There were a few spots that had a slight spongy area that we offered to fix, a very common occurrence with floating floors. She would not let us fix the floor and demanded that we replace her entire floor which was not necessary at all. She even said to us "I wish you hadn't used the dark pieces". We hired an attorney to represent ourselves when she threatened to sue. Very unfortunate overall because it was a long renovation that she was very happy with while she lived there during the process and paid us in full."

We recommend Smith Remodeling without hesitation. Lisa and Mark Smith and their long-time crew do excellent work at a reasonable price and take pride in it, as if your home were their own. Their finish work is outstanding – as good or better than new construction. They refurbished our vintage 1980 condo from top to bottom and made it look brand new, ready for us to move in. They sealed and painted ceilings, removed wallpaper, patched drywall, painted all walls, doors and casings, put in new baseboards, tore up tile and carpet, leveled the slab and installed vinyl planking and soundproofing. Along the way, at our request, they added a pocket door, painted the lanai, reset can lights in the kitchen and replaced wire shelves. They kept the site organized and left it neat and tidy. Dealing with Lisa was a pleasure. She worked with our association to meet all its requirements. She sent us to a source for flooring that saved us considerably over the retail stores we had been shopping. If we couldn’t reach her, she usually returned our calls within an hour – incredible in her business. She was responsive, direct and flexible even when resolving issues that inevitably pop up in big projects. Her original quote reflected concern about wallpaper that had been painted over in the kitchen. Turned out there were three layers there and another unexpected one in the bathroom, all of which took much more time to remove, but because she identified the potential problems up front, surprise was kept to a minimum. She also generously adjusted her rate for the extra work to keep the additional cost down. Before we hired Smith, we visited several previous clients and got the same story over and over: Superb work, reliable people, a fair price. Most had had Smith back for more work. We hope to do so too. Believe the glowing reviews. This is a great company.

Smith Remodeling was very professional in their work, timeliness, and flexibility. We added numerous additional projects and changes to our original contract without any problems. All work was done while we were out of town; Lisa kept us updated on all the work being done with numerous photos and texts. We were impressed with their work and kept adding additional projects. I highly recommend Smith Remodeling Services. The quote was very detailed so there was no question about what was included in the price. We did add on some items after the initial quote and the prices were very reasonable. They do not use subcontractors so progress on the project went very smoothly. I was very impressed with the tile workmanship. We had great communication throughout the project with Lisa Smith, the owner, and the staff member assigned to our project. High quality work for a reasonable price!

This was a big project and took several months to complete (in part because we needed at least one working bathroom at all times and because we took time off for the holidays, both Thanksgiving and Christmas). Throughout the project, owners Lisa and Mark were in constant communication with us -- in person, by phone, and by email and text. They coordinated the plumbing and countertop people for us, and picked up supplies as needed, delivering them in a timely manner. Several of their team worked on the project including Dan, Sean, and Steve. Dan completed the majority of the work on all three bathrooms (about 90%) -- at all times, he was professional, courteous, punctual, and just an overall great guy. He took obvious pride in his work and was meticulous, never rushing or cutting corners, and always cleaned up his work space each day -- we could not have asked for a more dedicated professional. This was our first experience with a large remodeling job, and we were beyond pleased with the process and the outcome. The bathrooms are beautiful, and we will enjoy them for years to come. We would not hesitate to use Smith Remodeling again and would highly recommend them for any job, large or small.

This project went without a hitch from inception to completion. Smith Remodeling helped me plan, design, and schedule the project from before we had even closed on the purchase of our new home, and worked with me, as I wanted to get on their schedule about 45 days out, coinciding with closing the buy, waiting for the arrival of a custom ordered, pre-hung pine French door, and the time when the house would be empty before we moved in. Their skilled tradesmen were completely professional, friendly, always on time, and meticulous and diligent about every detail of their work. Smith Remodeling came in ON BUDGET and ON TIME, and we couldn't be happier with the addition of this cozy and classy new music rehearsal space and den to our new home.

Can not say enough good things about Lisa and her staff. Professionals to the max. Very high quality work in all areas, every day made significant progress and cleaned up at the end of the day (we were not even present but had condo management and neighbors checking in on and they were all super impressed). We live in an older building so there have been many, many renovations (ours is the second one, previous owners did in 2006) so management at condo has seen a lot of renovations and said some of the best work they have seen - and so prompt and professional. We were not even present and are two extremely busy professionals and Lisa managed to keep us in the loop and the job was done smoothly and on time. We could not be happier with the outcome.

At the end of the day it went extremely well. My project started with a brief meeting with Smith after putting in an accepted bid on the condo (so I had not even closed on the condo). I then traveled back to Chicago-so much of the communication was done via email or texts. Now these methods are probably not the best way to go about a remodel project-but Smith was extremely responsive, provided honest and open feedback to either suggestions I made or suggestions they made. Smith provided pictures when necessary for me to make decisions, and did a whole lot of the leg work needed to bring my Florida project to an end while I was in Chicago. I never felt pressured, unless something was required because of "city code". The one caution I can give is Smith is a small company that juggles projects and customers. So sometimes crew members need to be re-assigned to another project. Patience is not a virtue with me, but Smith made it work. Some of the delays on my project was because I added items-so the reassignment of the crew was done based on commitments to approved work on other projects vs. Smith just adding to the length of my project in order to keep me happy - while making another customer unhappy. Their work crew is terrific. Very professional, trustworthy (meaning you do not have to be home the entire time), and all take pride in the job being done - so it is done right. Bottom line - I am very happy with my new home and would recommend Smith.

Hired Smith Construction to remodel a 1400sf flip. Every inch of this home was touched including the single car garage and some exterior issues. Smith Construction employees were very professional and knowledgeable. Everyone on the crew was respectful that this was a business investment, thus they did their best work. Dan is one of the best tile installer I have worked with. George had a broad knowledge thus was able to handle many projects. Lisa Smith was easy to work with and an excellent communicator. Mark ran the crews, making sure equipment and supplies were on the job in a timely manner. I have been in the home remodeling and construction industry for over 37 years [previously in another state] I feel very lucky that first project out of the gate I found Lisa and Mark Smith. We will definitely use Smith construction in the future.

I cannot tell you what a pleasure it was to do business with owners Lisa and Mark and their workers. The price was reasonable, they showed up on time, and did the work promised. You can imagine what a mess it is to redo the popcorn ceilings - in addition I had to live here while they were completing the project. It went very smoothly. They covered and protected everything and cleaned up every evening over a week and a half. The workers were very detail oriented. Some of my chandeliers were "delicate" meaning multiple parts. They were patient and hung the lights just as I requested. The outside of the house looks great also. I knew when I purchased the home that I would have to fix the rot on the siding. The hurricane had me move up this project as some water seeped into my kitchen ceiling. When the workers were redoing the ceilings, they fixed the stain on the ceiling, as well as on the wall. I highly recommend and would not hesitate to use Smith Remodeling for any projects you have. I was very lucky to find them - it is difficult to find reliable, competent and honest companies/workers for hire in this area.

Absolutely OUTSTANDING! Such nice people and very efficient. They are proficient in carpentry (raised the shower ceiling to 8 ft., cut a full wall into a half wall, built and marble covered bench in the shower and installed a pocket door. They installed a rain shower over head and a wand shower head to the wall, so they know plumbing. The installation of floor tile and shower marble is beautifully done. Of course electrical work was necessary, new shower lighting etc. and this too is perfect. This is a one stop shop and am told they do kitchens as well.

Two bathrooms gutted and remodeled, kitchen gutted and remodeled, new doors, trim and baseboards, remove popcorn ceilings and retextured. They installed flooring after a snafu with a disreputable company took my money and disappeared (do not hire Brian Conrad of Nokomis or his father, from Venice flooring outlet,they are crooks. They did a lot of work in a short amount of time.
