"This was an amazing experience. Javier is very knowledgeable and did a great job with what me and my husband wanted. He was able to make a closet that is functional as an office space as well, he’s very professional and leaves the area very clean afterwards. Will book again for another project. -Christal"

"I called William because he was referred by someone else. William did not hesitate to assist in my needs. He asked for photos so that he could provide a more accurate quote as well as options. He did just that in a very timely manner. The wire rack fell out the closet. William came on the same day of contact with all the tools and supplies. Completed the project and we are very pleased. Will definitely be spreading the word about his services!"

"We hired Quintessential Renovations to remodel an old, run-down basement in a 100 year old house. Alex impressed us right away with his ideas for the project. It wasn't just us telling him what we wanted, but rather Alex actively building on our ideas and suggesting options. Quintessential was the second highest of four bids but we went with them because Alex conveyed to us, more than any other bidder, that he would have sufficient attention to detail and deliver a fully finished look. Believing this was the best value, we went with Alex. We were not disappointed. Alex had great ideas throughout the project and we love our new basement. The skilled workers that are actually employees of Quintessential, the carpenter and electrician, are fantastic. On time, reasonably cleaned up, courteous, happy to hear our concerns during the project - really top rate professionals. A few issues arose with the subbed out drywall and painting, but this was rectified when Alex was also unhappy with the work and brought in a better crew at no cost to us to finish the work. We also had an issue with the supply of new custom windows that dragged out for many months, but in the end Alex was (finally) able to find a suitable supplier on the third try and the windows look great. Would hire again."

"This trunk has been in my family for at least fifty years. It had reached the point where it either needed to be thrown out or restored. The guy who does the restoration is out of the area now but comes to the area every so often. We agreed on a time frame for the total project and he was able to meet it. He exceeded my expectations."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Plywood, MDF (medium-density fiberboard), and solid wood are all popular options for closet shelving. Plywood and solid wood are sturdy and ideal for extended shelves or heavy items. MDF is a budget-friendly choice for light to moderate storage, but it can sag under heavy weight if not adequately supported. Wire shelving is another alternative that allows airflow, making it especially useful in humid spaces such as laundry rooms or basements.

You can modernize an old-looking closet by just painting it, but beyond that, consider electric elements like recessed or accent lighting. If this is a large and deep closet, you can consider adding an island to the middle or a nice ottoman on a rug. Luxury closets will have even more items, like felt-lined drawers for watches and jewelry, in-wall safes, electronic shoe storage, or a tablet catalog of their items.

When you are securing your DIY home office built-ins to the wall, you should start by locating the wall studs. You'll then want to use long screws to attach the cabinets, shelves, and bookcases directly to the wall studs. Your built-ins will be far too heavy to attach to the drywall alone by using anchors.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

Tiny house living requires creative solutions to the one biggest issue: space. Many people in tiny houses find life most manageable if they practice minimalism. Eliminating excess items and clutter makes the living space feel bigger, which can be a significant mood booster. It can also be challenging to get utilities arranged for a tiny house, and building and zoning codes can and often do present unique challenges to overcome.
