"The fellow who came that day determined what we had was 1) not up to code and would take a lot of work to fix (we could not afford it at the time), 2) we did not have a new range hood available to replace the broken one, and 3) could not fix the ceiling fan as we did not have the part. He only charged a small service fee for the visit."

"Allstar Electricals Joe, called when on the way to a job and was at my home ahead of time. He gave a price to do the job and after my approval, he completed the job in a very timely manner. He had to replace two ceiling exhaust fans. Great job Joe. Will for sure call Allstar Electrical Experts, Inc. again with any more electrical problems."

"The Cleanleader team was punctual, friendly, efficient and very respectful of our home. They were hard, diligent workers and did a wonderful deep cleaning job. They also folded towels and arranged tissue into festive designs. I couldn’t be more pleased."

"Fantastic! I’ve used this company many times for A/C repair and maintenance and have always been pleased with their work. This was my first time having them do electrical work and am very happy with the results. Office staff were very pleasant when scheduling the appointment and I received an email reminder the day before as well as an email when the technician was en route. Pete, the electrician who did the work, was terrific. He arrived when expected, got right to work, and knew his stuff. He was very neat and took pains to make sure that the new box for the ceiling fan was properly centered in the kitchen. He also relocated the garbage disposal switch to a more convenient spot in the cabinet under the sink and changed which outlet in a bedroom was controlled by a wall switch. All this, including cleanup, was completed in just under three hours. I would definitely use this company again for electrical work as well as A/C service."

"It went excellent. Our house is from the 1950s and is challenging to make changes, but Lemont has a knack to find a way to "yes, we can do that" no matter the idea or request. He works hard, and knows a great deal about home improvements, as well as all the materials and tools he needs when he arrives. He is courteous, punctual, and is always trying to clean and protect the room/home as he works. His billing is fair and though he seems very busy he tries to work with our schedule. I am a huge fan and there has not been one negative thing in the days and days he has been tackling our tasks, always with a great attitude and professionalism"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.
