"After I took off the old tile and replaced the cement board in my shower, I hired Fran to seal/waterproof the cement board and re-tile the shower. Fran and James (his assistant) were friendly, punctual, and worked both quickly and carefully. Fran did very well matching up the tile design in an asymmetrical space, and he talked me into using another (smaller) kind of tile on the ceiling, which was the right call. I thought his fee was reasonable, and I wouldnâ t hesitate to use Fran again on another tiling project. He knows his stuff!"

"Everyone was very professional. The ceramic and stone floors look brand new. I received their help throughout the entire process, and in selecting the new grout colors with samples to show how each color would look. They also provided great info on care and maintenance. I will highly recommend. Thank you."

"Nelson arrived at the time designated. He has a great personality, is an extremely hard worker and takes pride in what he does. I had my marble kitchen counters and marble floors restored. The end result is that they look better than new. I highly recommend Nelson for any marble restoration projects. He also followed up the next day to ask if everything looked fine."

"We recently hired this business to clean our bedroom carpets and four flights of stairs. They did a thorough job, and the carpets look great. They arrived promptly at the appointed time, completed the work professionally, within the estimated time and at a reasonable price. They added careful touches to prevent damage to our home, by providing protection for walls/corners. We highly recommend them to our friends and neighbors!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.

The best bathroom floor tiles are strong enough to withstand the weight of a clawfoot tub. However, professional tile installation is essential. If the tiles are uneven or improperly fixed, they may crack under the pressure. Be careful when installing the tub—if it drops or drags on the tiles, it could easily cause scratches or cracks.

Different types of tile cutters may work best depending on the type of tile you are cutting and the size of your project. There are two main types of tile cutters: manual and electric. Manual tile cutters are quick and easy to use for small projects and softer tile materials, but they can only make straight cuts. Electric tile cutters make light work of big projects and can cut through harder materials.

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.

It’s not a good idea to lay tile and grout on the same day. The adhesive or thin-set that sticks the tiles to the surface needs plenty of time to dry before you can grout. Wait for 24 to 48 hours, depending on moisture levels in the space. The tiles can become misaligned and more prone to damage if you don’t wait.
