"Nelson did an outstanding job restoring the Marmiline pieces in our bathroom. He was very meticulous and took his time making sure that he removed the stains and scratches in them. He is extremely knowledgeable in tile restoration. Periodically, he would have my husband and I look at his work to see if we were happy with how it was turning out. I highly recommended M&N Stone Restoration and Repair LLC!"

"Manny (BHC, LLC) did an excellent job on our bathroom remodel. We’ve used Manny/BHC for several projects over the years, and we’ve been very pleased every time—this one was no exception. Communication was clear, he was reliable, and he handled issues quickly and professionally. The workmanship was high quality, especially the tile work and waterproofing (Schluter system), and the finished bathroom looks great. This was a full gut, but they encapsulated the work area, protected the floors, and kept dust from spreading through the house. They also cleaned the job site daily. The crew worked 12 days straight to demo and completely rebuild the bathroom, which minimized the impact on our family. Fair, transparent, and easy to work with. Highly recommend."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The process takes two to four days, depending on the size of the area and your experience level. The first day involves assessing and prepping the existing tile, while the second day is for laying the new tile. This may take longer in complex areas. After letting the adhesive dry for 24 hours, grouting and sealing can be completed on day three. For larger projects or intricate tile patterns, expect the timeline to stretch a bit longer. Also, proper drying time between steps is essential for long-lasting results, which extends the project’s time.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

The tile spacing you should use will depend on the tile and where you’re installing it. Choosing the right tile spacers to maintain a consistent gap between your tiles is tricky. Generally, tile spacing shouldn’t be less than 2 millimeters on walls and 3 millimeters on floors because of stress relief requirements. Getting it wrong can result in uneven tiles and early repairs.

Different types of tile cutters may work best depending on the type of tile you are cutting and the size of your project. There are two main types of tile cutters: manual and electric. Manual tile cutters are quick and easy to use for small projects and softer tile materials, but they can only make straight cuts. Electric tile cutters make light work of big projects and can cut through harder materials.

The cost depends on the type of natural stone. High-end stones can cost as much as porcelain, but it depends on the specific material. For example, the cost of flagstone pavers is typically $2 to $6 per square foot, which is much more budget-friendly than porcelain. Outdoor slate tile can cost as much as $35 per square foot, which is about the same as porcelain.
