"I selected Schede Plumbing for my conversion from an oil fired heating boiler to a gas boiler. My selection was based on known referrals in the Stamford, CT area from other well satisfied customers. I could not be more pleased, nor rate give enough praise and thanks to Lou Schede and his expert technicians. This was a major project for me and I was very anxious as to how the how conversion would take place. It would require draining the fuel tank, cutting it into manageable pieces and removing it from my basement. The idea of a gas conversion process was a bit scary to me but Lou Schede walked my through was would be involved, assessed what the heating requirement would be for my house, and selected a gas boiler which fit my needs perfectly. It was only two weeks from the time I first contacted Lou until the time the installation took place. My goodness, three Lou Schede trucks and four highly trained, professional and very polite technicians arrived at my house at 8:20 AM and by 3:00 PM my new gas boiler was installed, tested, and providing heat. Amazingly diligent workers worked very hard and did an beautiful installation. It was like a work of art in motion watching them work. The fuel tank was drained, cut up and removed. the oil fill pipes from outside to inside the basement were removed flush with both the interior and exterior walls and were cemented over. Beautiful, as if the pipes were never there. What also impressed me that whenever I had a question for Lou he was always there, immediately. No complicated voice menuing system. You want Lou, you call Lou, and you get Lou...immediately. This was very satisfying to me and he was a real pleasure to deal with. Absolutely top notch in every respect. The price for the installation was remarkably affordable....more that 6 to 8 thousand dollars less then competing firms. Incredible. He even cleaned the chimney, which was required by the city building code, applied for the permit at his expense. This was a thorough, comprehensive one shop job. Other firms required a separate electrician to hook up the thermostat, a separate firm to drain and remove the oil tank, and a separate firm to clean the chimney. Lou and his staff did it all!. One firm and he and his staff did it all. This is amazing. Lastly, he even accepted credit card for payment upon completion of the installation. I can go on and on. I have nothing but the best things to say about Schede Plumbing And Heating. They have my highest recommendation and are now my go to plumbing and HVAC company. Thanks Lou to you and your technicians for thoroughly well done job and an installation experience that was truly a pleasure."

"Our basement has a huge sloping rock in it-the foundation was built around it when the house was built in the 50's. Over the past 5-6 years, water has seeped in more and more at the top of the rock where it meets the ground right next to the foundation and rolled down the rock to the cellar floor, threatening to flow over to the finished side of the basement. First we put a new drainage system outside the house but that did not help. Five years ago we had another basement company come and they told us all we would need is a dehumidifier and that would dry up the water. We bought their big dehumidifier but nope, that did not make a dent in it, it has just gotten worse each year. I called CT Basement Systems late last fall and a very, very nice representative came, looked at the rock and the water flowing down it and was confident their system would take care of the problem. I have a friend that used them for water in her basement and she has raved about them and has never had a drop of water since her system was installed. I paid the deposit and the technicians came exactly when they said they would. They did a great job, were very professional and left the cellar area very clean in spite of all the dust that must have been generated by the jackhammering. I am very happy with the job they did. However, there has been one unexpected problem. Before the drain was put in, I had been buying absorbent socks, flood bags and all kinds of things to soak up the water. Now we just let the water course down the rock into the drain guard, which then funnels it to the sump. We discovered that some of the water drains down to our brick chimney, which abuts the big rock . Instead of continuing it's flow down the rock to the drain, some water is soaking into the gravel around the chimney and then coming out on the other side, where there is no drain guard, making puddles on the floor again. We think the rock needs a thin lip of cement to direct the flow down and away from the chimney area. So, I called the salesman. No call back. I emailed him. No reply. I called and left another message but nothing. I called the company and asked if they would give him a message to call me. No response. So, I can only surmise that they are completely uninterested in this, now that the job is done. I now have a mason coming to do the cement. It is too bad, because I was so impressed with the salesman when he came and also with the installers. I would recommend the product and the installation service beyond a shadow of a doubt. But the lack of customer service after the fact is a huge disappointment. I actually do not mind having our own mason come and do the job. If they had called me back, I would have told them that- I really just wanted to get their opinion on the problem. But they apparently just don't want to be bothered."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

A saturated leach field can result from various underlying issues, so it's best to call a professional septic company to diagnose and treat the problem. Depending on the cause of the saturation, potential fixes include pumping out a full septic tank, adding more bacteria to the tank, or regrading the soil to fix low spots. It may also be necessary to reroute rainwater and runoff away from the leach field using gutters, downspouts, and extenders. Once the primary issue is resolved, planting specific types of vegetation over the area can help absorb excess water. In more severe cases, you might need to install a larger septic tank or replace the leach field entirely.

Bleach isn’t likely to help unclog a sewer line. Bleach isn’t useful in this situation because it won’t dissolve the grime and debris in the clog. Instead, you want to use ingredients that will have a chemical reaction to clear out the buildup, like vinegar or salt and baking soda.

If your drain doesn’t have metal crosshairs or crossbars, you should use a tub drain extractor. These tools create a grip on the drain so you can turn it using a 1/2-inch ratchet drive, drain key, or wrench. Your drain may not have crosshairs if it's old and broken.

Liquid drain cleaners are harsh chemicals that can erode your pipes. To treat a slow drain or for preventative maintenance, pour hot water down the drain to break up gunk and help move it along. Make sure the water isn’t boiling hot (keep it under 140 degrees Fahrenheit) if you have plastic pipes. However, you’ll need to pull the clog out for bigger backups.

Even if the shower drain doesn’t seem clogged or dirty, plan to clean it out about once per month—or more frequently if you or your family shed a lot of hair. It’s a good practice to remove any hair from the drain on a daily basis, as hair can accumulate fast and cause clogs in no time. You may also want to have a plumber thoroughly clean the drains in your home once every six months.
