"Alex responded promptly to my request for an estimate and was able to provide me with one immediately after evaluating the site and job we wanted done. I thought the price was fair and in line with the other estimates, his responsiveness was top notch and he was almost immediately available. Once we agreed on hiring him, he and his team were able to start within the same week. We had an excellent experience throughout the process and he was able to quickly and fairly address any changes to the original plans. The guys were always right on time, incredibly efficient, and left the work area very clean every day after they were done. We have spent more time the last two weeks on our back patio than we have on our deck in any given year. He gave us an estimate on a Tuesday, we hired him the following Monday, they started on Saturday, and finished on Wednesday. I wish I had more work for them to do, and would certainly recommend Alex Masonry."

"Front of my stairs were starting to crumble and looked gross. I was having a hard time finding a permanent solution, at a reasonable price, and had curb appeal. Had a couple quotes but I’m glad I went with Design and Build Masonry LLC. Very nice people, family owned, and did an awesome job! Will be having them take care of some more projects for me."

"Andi and his crew transformed my motherâ s front walk in about three days time. What a beautiful job going from sunken bricks to beautiful grey pavers with contrasting border. The crew was on time every day, Andi reviewed the measurements and contract And work completed without any problems. Actually had Andi measure for project for 2021, because we were so happy with the results!!"

"They did a great job, the only minuses would be that our project was a small one, they did it as a side job. So we had to wait a little longer than we wanted and pay cash as we don't have checks and they didn't take cards. Other than that if we have any additional hardscaping or masonry needed, they will be our first call."

"Andri and Co provided great masonry services and did an amazing job in short period of time. They built a lake-front retaining wall that is beautiful, and the quality is great. All the neighbors now want one like this. We highly recommend Guri Masonry."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Look for new cracks running directly through the brick faces, which indicates a previous contractor used overly hard cement mortar on older lime-mortar walls. If you see peeling caulk used instead of real mortar, or bubbling surface coatings on your foundation, the original masonry work requires immediate replacement. In Connecticut, returning white salt deposits also prove the previous repair failed to stop the underlying coastal water infiltration.

Helpful?

Watch for stair-step cracking in your mortar joints, which signals frost heave or foundation settlement. In coastal CT areas, white salt deposits indicate active water movement that causes spalling. Recessed joints deeper than a quarter inch allow water to pool and freeze inside the wall. Additionally, horizontal cracks in basement walls point to serious lateral soil pressure. Address these signs of failing masonry work immediately to prevent structural collapse.

Helpful?

Schedule an inspection in March or April to check for new cracks and spalling caused by winter freeze-thaw cycles. You must also address missing mortar in September or October before temperatures drop below forty degrees. Unexplained increases in your heating bills point to deteriorating chimneys or foundations. If your mortar joints recede by a quarter inch, book professional masonry work immediately to protect your Norwalk home from structural failure.

Helpful?

Start by redirecting your downspouts at least six feet away from the foundation to prevent water intrusion. You should also carefully clear surface moss or ivy without pulling embedded roots. Before winter arrives in Norwalk, photograph and mark any existing cracks to track their progression. Avoid pressure washing your brick, and always hire a certified specialist for masonry work on historic properties to ensure you use the correct mortar.

Helpful?

Repairing masonry work is more cost-effective than a full replacement in Norwalk when you catch damage early. Freeze-thaw cycles and coastal moisture cause cracks and spalling. If cracks remain under a quarter inch, local professionals recommend tuckpointing or patching. For historic homes with lime-based mortar, repointing preserves structural integrity. Address surface-level damage quickly before moisture penetrates deep into the brick, which forces a complete wall replacement.
