"The contractor we hired to do the work went out of business without telling us and we were stuck. Brian to the rescue. Even though our roof was much steeper than he usually works on he agreed to replace the glass in our three skylights. He did an excellent job and I couldn't be more thrilled. He prepped the roof one day and finished the job the next. It is a real treat to be able to see through our skylights again. Thank you Brian."

"I contacted M and J roofing about a leak. Lous response was quick and after inspecting my roof responded with urgency. I had many roofs installed over the past several years none of which seem to work due to the pitch. The most recent roof I put on was a metal roof, which was the source of many of the problems. After Lou inspected it he told me what needed to be done and after agreeing on the contract he started immediately. They are prompt and professional and both him and his son Nick are two of the kindest human beings I ever met. They told me they'd be here at 8:00 a.m. and they were here before that, they started at 8:00 and we're done by the end of the day. Lou and Nick kept me posted each step of the way and during the removal of the metal roof they showed me what went wrong and explained why it went wrong. In short it was because of companies or people that install roofs that don't care about their work that care about ripping off unsuspecting customers. That is why in closing I will say M and J roofing should be the only and I am stressing only company anybody should want to do any work on their roof."

"Their service was perfect. I am new here, but the previous people were always using him, and we are happy. I do not have a lot of contacts because they are completely independent since it is a roof problem. I just called. They came, and I received an invoice. I do not know the company, but I am very happy. I would recommend them because they are reliable, and the quality of their work is fantastic. Their price is expensive but okay."

"It was awesome. Someone had recommended this company to me and they were great. It snowed about a foot the day before and they showed up with about 10 guys and shoveled off the roof! They had the roof completed within a day. They came back the day after (which was a Sunday) to do a second walk through and to ensure everything was cleaned up. I would highly recommend them to others."

"JD did a great job performing a replacement of a leaking skylight. He communicated what was wrong with prior work performed by another party and took the necessary steps to do the job the right way. Will definitely be reaching out to JD for future roofing work."

"I would highly recommend Manny and his team to anyone in need of roofing services!! Manny was great at communicating about the project and making suggestions. The team arrived on time, worked efficiently and left everything clean. The quality of their work was excellent! Another family member had used Manny in the past and was also extremely happy with their new roof!"

"Never previously dealt with a roofer as knowledgable, communicative, and as reasonably priced as Samper with Roof Systems of Connecticut! He explained everything about my slate roof which was leaking and overdue for maintenance and repairs. He is a skilled drone operator who took video and still photos of ALL the necessary areas in need of repairs/replacement. I will definitely ask him to return to address water leakage in the area of several dormer windows. I finally found a skilled roofer who is so easy to deal with and respectful that I never want to let him go! Moreover, he LOVES slate roofs and possess decades of experience with them, and was eager to instruct me regarding my "lifetime" slate roof. By the way, my home was built in 1928 (original roof)! DO NOT HESITATE TO HIRE THIS GEM OF A ROOFER!!!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Architectural shingles and impact-resistant shingles aren’t mutually exclusive, which means some architectural shingles are impact-resistant shingles. Architectural shingles are thicker and more durable than standard 3-tab shingles, and they become even stronger when they also have high impact resistance and wind resistance ratings. The most durable shingles for areas with extreme weather are architectural or luxury shingles that have a Class-4 impact resistance and a Class-H wind resistance that can stand up to winds reaching 150 mph.

Copper roof strips offer better coverage and more damage protection than zinc roof strips. Although both deter moss and algae growth, copper also offers UV protection. Zinc strips require more strips than copper to cover the roof’s surface area, which means more holes in your roof. Copper strips are also more flexible and last longer than zinc strips.

While spotting a bit of algae on your roof may not bother you at first glance, it is certainly bothering your roof shingles. The presence of algae can cause decay and shorten the lifespan of your roof’s shingles, which can lead to much bigger problems down the road. While this issue may seem cosmetic at first glance, it goes much deeper than that.

Homeowners insurance may cover the cost to tarp a roof if the type of damage falls within your coverage. For example, roof damage caused by a natural disaster may fall within your plan, and the cost of a temporary tarp may be incorporated. In general, however, simply tarping your roof for renovations will often not fall under insurance coverage.

This will depend on your existing roof to some degree, but it’s common to raise a roof 4 to 8 feet. The exact amount you can raise is subject to the existing structure. For most homes with average roof slopes—20 to 45 degrees—you can raise the roof around 5 feet.
