The job went okay. The workers were not very communicative but did a good job. The gentleman who sold me the job seemed overworked and showed up sporadically and requested final payment before the job was done.

Villwell required deposits of 50% of their work prior to beginning. I paid the deposit, as did six of my neighbors. Villwell then disappeared from any communication for nine months. They did not respond to multiple attempts to email/call them for some type of update. Finally they began work, which was contracted to take 30 days; and took 5+months. They attempted to install slider doors against code; did not secure permits from the town for their work (although they said they did) and left our job site filthy, damaged grass due to leaving their supplies all over our property for months on end. We finally fired them for breaking all promises made in their contract and hired, and paid, another contractor who immediately and professionally installed our sliders. Without incident. A pleasure to work with. Villwell still has not completed the work on our decks, after repeated attempts, yet again, to have them complete their work. They are unprofessional, do not return calls for updates on delays, and in fact only communicate to ask for more money for work not performed. I wish I had read more reviews prior to hiring them.

My new deck is beautiful. From the day I drew a simple sketch to what they turned it into was quick and done beautifully. The trex boards look great.

The deck trim and the stair sides were covered with azek. The floors and stairs were replaced with Trex. The deck foundation was strengthened. They covered the foundation 4x4 posts and supporting beam with azek trim which looks very neat and the structure stands out well in the backyard. Brain the project manager did a good job in ensuring the job was done well and came over repeatedly to inspect the job as it was in progress. I would hire him again to do a project in my house. There was some cost overrun with the project as the foundation needed to be strengthened.

Villwell Contractors I wanted to express how pleased we are with the quality of work of the Villwell contractors, the professionalism of the Villwell team and especially recognized John as your project manager. John always was polite, reactive to our needs, work around our schedule, answer all our correspondence promptly. When we had an issue with a leak in the newly installed roof, he was over in hours at the site overseeing the sub-contractors repairs. Matter of fact he brought his own crew over a few days later and the work over three hours on the roof making sure the repair was done properly. Any cosmetic issues he took care of seamlessly. Every task was done with the highest quality and would recommend Vidwell/ John to anyone who wanted a job done right Thanks again…

I did a review right after Dan and Jay completed the work on 4/19/17. Unfortunately, not enough time had gone by to fully review the quality of their work. The following winter, January 2018, the roof leaked again in the same area I had hired Villwell to repair. Despite personally meeting with Dan at his office with pictures of my house and roof and a detailed discussion of the work that needed to be done to correct the leak, Villwell failed to be prepared for the job (sufficient material) and complete it correctly, (no leaks). As a result, I wrote to them on 5/31/18 with no response. We initiated a subrogation action against Villwell for property damage and obtained a judgement against Villwell for the full amount. No response to the judgement and no payment from Villwell. Would not recommend Villwell Builders at 33 Wolcott Road, Suite 8, Wolcott, CT. This is the address from my invoice. They may have moved to 2714 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT. Also requesting Angie's list to not consider them for any awards.

"[Member Name Removed] sorry you feel that [Member Information Removed]. I did all I could to help you get your project done and done properly i disagree that the work was not done properly we did the roof as you hired us to do and a year later you had. A leak from what in my opinion was a different issue. I did not get a call from you to make repairs or to look at this as we stand behind our work 100% you can ask any of our customers. Sorry you feel that [Member Information Removed] If there is anything we can do for you please let us know"

new furnace install was the best with only I leak which was fixed right away. Windows did not have big sill as before and they missed a couple of areas painting. waited a couple of days for the painter to come. the worst and still is not fixed is the gutters. They leaked from between the gutter and the house in front and the pitch was not right. the back has a problem in the corner which they were told before they started and it still leaks and floods in the corner. when i call they say we will take care of it and the owner comes looks and smiles and says ok we will get someone here to take of it. I HAVE BEEN HEARING THE SAME THING FOR 4 YEARS NOW AND I AM STILL WAITING. I always called in spring giving them all that time to come. STILL WAITING. I NOW GIVE UP!!!!!!

"Good afternoon, This was a small city grant project that we had won back in 2014. We did lead abatement, roofing, windows and a boiler. The project was inspected by the building inspector on 1/5/15 and approved. I can supply the building officials document. The project was also approved by the company hired from the town to oversee the project and by the homeowner herself. I also have that paperwork that can be supplied on request. We supply a limited lifetime warranty on materials AND labor on the roof as well as a one year warranty on all the work done on this project. Mrs [Member Name Removed] has called us several times regarding different complaints and we have responded every time. The owner himself has responded to every call. Once she had a complaint about a leak but it wasn't from the roof project. It was from the chimney which due to regular wear and tear and the chimney cap being broken. She has asked about the gutters several times and we have responded and the gutters are not leaking due to improper installation. They have been clogged a couple times that we have responded. We have gone back repeatedly even long after the warranty has expired because we stand behind our work but at this point it has been almost 4 years of back and forth. I will upload documents showing all the approvals if needed."

Job went very smoothly, crew worked quickly, cleaned up well and were friendly. Brian and Dan followed up and the job was completed promptly. We had a minor leak on our skylight and a crew came out immediately and repaired it. We are presently going through a NorEaster and have no leaks! Job well done! Would definitely use this company again if we have other work to be done.

Not well - original Angie's list offer was $5,995 for a roof up to 20 sq ft (which would be $3.00 per sq foot). I paid down payment, Villwell send people out to see my house. Sent me an estimate of $7,360. Upcharges were for a flashing needed and also additional 8 sq footage (as per their estimate). I accepted the deal and chose my shingle color - next day I get an estimate at $10,990 - over $3,500 higher! When questioned, they said they had made an error on the estimate, and that the additional 8 sq ft would cost $4,000 ($5.00 per sq ft - they offered NO discount on the additional square footage). Due to my intention to cancel the offer and use my down payment elsewhere, we did end up with a compromise of $9,500 - they claimed they would lose money on the job if they went any lower......The errors did not stop there - Then they said I should move my car out of the garage by 8AM on the scheduled work date, Dec. 27, because the materials for my roof would be delivered on that date at that time and would block my driveway. WRONG - materials came on Dec. 26, and thankfully I was home so that I could discuss with the driver and get the materials placed on my lawn (driver said he did not have sufficient room to work with placement in the driveway due to trees and power lines and needed my permission to place the materials on my lawn). NEXT - day of work, Dec. 27 - eight or nine Hispanic workers arrived in two vehicles - an unmarked van and an unmarked pickup truck. Probably day workers, not employees. Not a single one spoke English, and only one understood limited English. Also that day a dumpster was deposited right square at the house end of my driveway, blocking any chance of my moving my car. These guys worked very hard in very cold conditions, and I have no complaints about their work. However, at the end of the day, they were leaving the dumpster behind (at 3:30), blocking my entire driveway. I attempted to ask the driver of the pick up truck about the dumpster, but he did not understand me. I called the office immediately, also the cell phone of the Sales person with whom I had been negotiating, and after four phone calls the dumpster was finally removed around 5:30 that night. On my first call, I was told that they "typically leave the dumpster until the next day". This had NEVER been mentioned to me. So - I debated long and hard about writing this review. I kept ignoring the emails asking me to review the builder. I can say that my roof looks very nice, and that the men worked extremely hard under very very cold conditions. So far I can't determine how the roof will hold up, but I did have numerous issues with the company in general, as stated above. I would not use them again.

The Villwell crew worked from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm and finished the job in one day. They did a great job, but because of the loss of daylight overlooked gutter cleanup.

I am extremely pleased with all aspects of the work. Jay Rainville, the owner of the company, is easy to work with and intent on customer satisfaction-- and I am a highly demanding customer. The roofing crew was amazing. Watching them work was like watching a well-choreographed ballet, and the new roof was up in a single day, gutters, guards, and new sill the next day. My landscaping was well protected, and cleanup was excellent---only a few stray bits of old shingles and roofing nails left behind. My next door neighbors had their roof done a month before mine by a different company. It was a sloppy and unprofessional 5-day job from start to finish, and cost nearly double Villwell's price--- and they did not get new gutters or guards. The workers also did little extras here and there, like tacking down loose siding, etc. at no extra charge. The only problem was damage to my new driveway by the dumpster company (which still hasn't been resolved.) But my issue is with the dumpster company, not Villwell. It's a good idea to get specifics written into the contract and to keep an eye on the work if possible, as sometimes details can be lost in translation. For example, a ridge vent wasn't added to the garage as originally planned. But these details were corrected quickly once brought to the roofers' attention. Overall, I don't think anyone could find a better quality job at any price, nor have I ever dealt with a contractor so intent on customer satisfaction. Similarly, the workers are all highly skilled professionals who clearly know what they're doing. I did my homework before choosing a contractor. Villwell has an A+ from the BBB. I got other quotes for the job, and roofers with lesser qualifications couldn't come close to Villwell's price. One of them wasn't even licensed! Also, Villwell is a a GAF-certified roofing contractor. I was told by someone at a building supply company ((Sanford and Hawley) that certifications are not handed out easily, and that this puts Villwell in a separate class from many others. I would hire Villwell Builders again in a heartbeat to do any type of construction or remodeling, and I give them my highest recommendation without qualification.

They did a beautiful job. I am very happy with the work that was done. The old roof was ripped off; several pieces of plywood were replaced and a new one was applied. Their cleanup was spotless and I have not found a nail in the yard. Their price and professionalism were superb!

The crew arrived around 8 am and completed the job around 6 pm. They were a well oiled machine and worked very hard. My roof was steep at a 9 pitch. They worked safely with rope tethers. Quality was very good. All details were attended to-- ice and water, flashing, ridge vent, etc. Clean up was meticulous, especially old roof nails picked up with magnetic roller. Dumpster placed in the driveway was removed the next day. All expectations were met and very happy with the results.
