"Here's a polished version of your review for the tile installer: --- I hired Custom Tile Work to install my backsplash, based on a recommendation from the tile store where I made my purchase. Vince did an outstanding job. He was meticulous with every cut, cleaned up each day, and was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Custom Tile Work for any tile installation needs."

"I had a quartz countertop that was measured incorrectly by my previous contractor. There were huge gaps on either side of the range. I hired Villa to remove the quartz and install a new marble countertop. Monica referred me to more affordable stone yards and even found someone to make and install new lower cabinet spacers for the new measurements! The project was turned around super quickly and most importantly, done perfectly. Villa is a pleasure to work with!"

"Everyone was very professional. The ceramic and stone floors look brand new. I received their help throughout the entire process, and in selecting the new grout colors with samples to show how each color would look. They also provided great info on care and maintenance. I will highly recommend. Thank you."

"Nelson did an outstanding job restoring the Marmiline pieces in our bathroom. He was very meticulous and took his time making sure that he removed the stains and scratches in them. He is extremely knowledgeable in tile restoration. Periodically, he would have my husband and I look at his work to see if we were happy with how it was turning out. I highly recommended M&N Stone Restoration and Repair LLC!"

"I had Dom clean my tile and grout floors in my kitchen, 2 bathrooms and laundry room. The grout which was black now looks white once again. I couldn t believe how much dirt came out. He also cleaned a few oriental rugs which also came out really good. Amazing service and professionalism by Dom I cannot thank him enough."

Customers say: Quick response

"Adam and his team (Marco and Danny) are excellent! Removed old kitchen cabinets and granite counter top, put up new drywall and installed new cabinets with precision (my countertop is now level!), and they tiled backsplash. His communication with logistics/timing was spot on. He and his team worked efficiently to get the job done and quality of work is top notch. I would absolutely hire them again."

"Adael replaced a tub with a beautiful tiled Schluter Kerdi system. The team also retiled the bathroom floor. The house was built in 1836, so naturally you never know exactly what you’ll find as you tear things out. Angel never missed a beat and the job net cost me less than the original quote as he had me return Schluter components that he said were unnecessary. Perhaps the best contractor I’ve ever worked with."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The average cost for tile installation is about $2,000, with a typical price range between $500 and $6,500. On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $5 and $45 for installation.

Several factors influence the total cost, including:

  • Installation Site: Costs vary for different areas. Common project costs are: kitchen floor ($870–$6,100), countertop or backsplash ($500–$3,000), bathroom floor ($300–$2,400), or shower wall ($225–$2,000).

  • Tile Type and Quality: The material significantly impacts price. For example, standard ceramic or travertine tile can cost about $1 per square foot, while luxury options like marble can be as much as $350 per square foot for the material alone.

  • Project Size and Complexity: The total square footage, the complexity of the pattern, and the shape of the tile (e.g., square, rectangle, hexagon, mosaic) will affect labor and material costs.

  • Site Preparation: The amount of prep work needed, such as removing old tile or installing a new subfloor or backer board, can add to the final price.

  • Tile Characteristics: The tile's durability rating and porosity can also influence the price.

  • Location: Labor rates vary by geographic location.

The lifespan of bathroom tile can be 50 years or more, depending on proper installation and regular maintenance. A well-done tile job, whether it's a new installation or a retiling project, can last for many decades. To lengthen the life of your tile, it's best to have it installed by a professional and to perform regular maintenance. This includes routine cleaning, resealing, and regrouting as needed. With proper care, you can expect your tile to last 10 years or more before needing major repairs or retiling, especially in high-traffic areas where tiles can wear out more quickly.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

The lifespan of tile flooring can vary significantly based on the material and maintenance. Generally, tile flooring can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, but high-quality, well-maintained ceramic tile can last 75 to 100 years. To achieve a longer lifespan, you should clean the tiles and grout regularly, reseal the grout annually, keep the floor dry, and avoid placing extremely heavy items on it to prevent cracking. Choosing a high-quality tile (Grade 1) will also contribute to its longevity.

It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.
