"First of all let me say that Adam and his associates are the most courteous and pleasant workers I have had the privilege of hiring to do a job. They arrived at the specified time and immediately got to work. These three guys worked like a fine tuned watch. They cleaned my basement of years of accumulated junk and left me with a basement that I can now see to the other end. They were neat, no damage to the yard where they hauled the material. I will use them in the future. I look forward to accumulating more junk so I can call Adam and his crew to clean after a pack rat. I highly recommend they highly. You will not be disappointed. Price is fair also. Louis"

"Hi All, We just used American Junk Removal to gut our bathrooms and haul away all of our appliances, carpets and other chaos in our home gut renovation. Adam Chop (owner) and his team could NOT have been more professional. They arrived on time, were completely professional, COVID aware and compliant and we would recommend them without reservation for any "junk removal" or demo needs you may have. They did not ask us to share or promote them, but I was so impressed with their service and professionalism combined with the fact that they were HALF of what our contractor quoted us for the same job - that I needed to share their services. "I want to express my sincere appreciation for the wonderful job Jon from Brownstone Disposal LLC did trimming down our high grass plants. His work was exceptional, and I would give it 10 stars if I could. He was extremely professional, communicated clearly, and provided very helpful advice after completing the job on how to maintain the plants. He definitely checked all the boxes of a hard worker who truly knows what they are doing. Highly recommend looking to this company, I was very happy with the entire process. Thank you again for your hard work!"

Hauling questions, answered by experts

To clean an estate, start by locating all important documents, which you’ll need to sort through. Have the mail forwarded, change the locks, and take inventory of the entire estate. Once you know what you’re dealing with, create a plan and a timeline for the cleanout. Start clearing out rooms and sorting items to donate, sell, or get rid of. Finally, deep clean the property.

Most people who rent a dumpster choose a 20-yard dumpster, which should be large enough for the following:

  • Bathroom remodels

  • Home cleanouts

  • Roof replacement

  • Large-scale landscaping projects

A 10-yard dumpster is suitable for the following projects:

  • Small bathroom remodel

  • Patio or deck demolition

  • Small landscaping projects

You might need a 30- or 40-yard dumpster for the following projects:

  • Large construction projects

  • Large demolition projects

  • Whole home renovations

You can ask your local dumpster rental company what size dumpster you need based on the specific project you have lined up.

You cannot put anything you want into a rented dumpster, as there are significant restrictions on certain items.

Generally allowed items include:

  • Household Junk: Furniture, old linens, carpets, toys, small appliances, and excess trash.

  • Construction & Yard Debris: Wood, yard debris, roofing materials, old finishes, and other construction waste.

Commonly prohibited items include:

  • Hazardous Materials: Toxic waste, medical waste, dangerous chemicals, items with lead paint, and asbestos.

  • Flammables: Gasoline, oil, and fuel.

  • Specific Banned Items: Paint cans, electronics, batteries, tires, refrigerators, and hot water tanks.

Because rules can vary, you should always check with your specific dumpster rental company for their guidelines if you are unsure about an item.

One of the best ways to reduce packaging waste is to purchase materials that are made using recycled materials. While these don’t eliminate waste, they do help provide uses for old packaging materials and prevent the need to collect more raw ingredients for continued manufacturing. Recycling those same products helps complete the cycle and reduces the need for new materials in the supply chain. You can also upcycle some packing materials, like cardboard and plastic, for use in crafts and organizational tools.

Garbage removal is a project you can do yourself, but hiring a professional to get the job done is often worthwhile. Depending on the type and amount of junk, you could be looking at a very labor-intensive job, dumping fees, dumpster charges, and potentially unsafe working conditions. Hiring a professional junk removal company not only saves you time and energy and keeps you safe, but it also means you don’t have to worry about carting the junk away or coordinating a dumpster and getting a permit for it.
