"Jeremy and his team of professionals did an awesome job in siding my home. I've painted the house every 5 years with Sherwin Williams paint, and it never lasted more than 5 years without chipping. Jeremy completely stripped off all the old cedar shingles and replaced that with cedar impression siding in the front, and straight siding elsewhere. The house looks very "clean / sharp" and very presentable to the street. I wasn't looking for dramatic change, just simply no ugly paint chipping! Very proud of Jeremy's team and the work they performed. Looking forward in hiring him for my next project"

"Marc Cowan and his Highland Window Company are the best, from quotation to completion. We are extremely happy with our new Harvey windows and the installation crew Neal, Hilton and Dean, was fantastic. We can't recommend Highland Windows highly enough! They really deserve their "A", 5-star rating. So pleased that we have also recently had them quote on siding replacement."

"Our Home was in need of a complete exterior update. We went online looking for potential contractors and the very 1st person to contact us was Jeremy from Sensible Home Products. Jeremy came to visit my wife and I and he was extremely professional, knowledgeable and very easy to communicate with. He was very helpful and patient with us in selecting the siding, roofing and the front door for our home. In fact, as we struggled to select the siding and roofing colors, Jeremy with a broken foot arranged for us to meet him at his siding and roofing distributors. Looking at planks of siding and full shingles instead of the small product samples allowed us to make great color decisions. You talk about going up and above to satisfy a potential new customer. Jeremyâ s follow-up and attention to detail is his greatest strength. I was sold on Jeremy on the 1st, of the probably 10 visits he made to our home before we signed the contract last October. We also want to give a shout-out to Jeremy crews that worked on our home. The roofing crew of 7 came and completed our roof in one day. The crew worked in harmony together, did a great job and cleaned up the yard diligently to get every nail. The siding crew came the following Monday. These 3 gentlemen were also very professional and expertly skilled in stripping down and putting back up the new siding and trim. Along the way the siding crew uncovered 4 locations of the house that were damaged by the weather and expertly repaired those areas. The guys worked neat and clean and they were all very courteous. Jeremy used great contractors to replace our gutters and exterior lights. In addition, would like to provide a special shout out to Hemi from Hemi Garage Doors as our new garage doors look wonderful. Since completion of the project I have been stopped by several couples walking by the house to say they love all the upgrades made to our home. Special thank you to Jeremy in putting up with me and my attention to detail. We love the work you and crew completed for us. My wife and I would highly recommend Jeremy from Sensible Home Products for any roofing / siding project in need of repair. Our home is breathtaking, thank you!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install siding over stucco, but it's crucial to ensure the stucco is in good condition first. Before proceeding, inspect the stucco for any signs of damage, leaks, or mold growth. If you discover water damage, mold, or have ongoing leak issues, it's recommended to remove the stucco completely. This step prevents future problems like mold and pest infestations and allows a professional to repair or replace any damaged sheathing underneath. If the stucco is sound, the installation process involves attaching furring strips to the wall's framing directly through the stucco. The new siding is then installed onto these furring strips. A professional may also need to adjust window and door openings to prevent them from being recessed behind the new siding, which can cause aesthetic issues and create potential leak points.

Vinyl siding is the cheapest option in terms of upfront costs. The average cost to install vinyl siding is around $12,173, with certain types like vinyl shake, clapboard, or dutch lap costing as little as $2 to $3 per square foot. While vinyl is very low-cost, it may not last as long as natural materials or metal, with a typical lifespan of 20 to 40 years. In contrast, metal siding is more expensive initially but can save you money in the long run due to its longer lifespan, which is often double that of vinyl. It's recommended to consult a siding professional to determine if the lowest-cost option is the best material for your specific home.

Costs vary based on home size, siding quality, labor, and any necessary repairs to underlying structures. High-grade materials and insulation options tend to influence the overall expense.

Different types of siding provide unique aesthetic and structural features, with each material commanding its own cost. Availability of materials and shipping costs also factors largely into the cost. The common types of siding materials include:

  • Stucco: $7–$9 per square foot

  • Wood: $1–$15 per square foot

  • Engineered wood: $1–$6 per square foot

  • Aluminum: $3–$6 per square foot

  • Fiber cement: $5–$14 per square foot

  • Brick: $10–$20 per square foot

  • Brick veneer: $3–$10 per square foot

  • Stone: $7–$30 per square foot

  • Stone veneer: $5–$11 per square foot

Increasing home value and return on investment (ROI) are two different things and it’s important to differentiate between the two. While a kitchen remodel will surely raise the value of the house, it may only have an ROI of around 50%. Homeowners looking to raise the value of their home for sale will have to consider how much they will recoup by the monetary investment in projects, as the ROI percentages may be lower or higher than the added value on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
