"Cory and Colton arrived on the time schedule, did a survey on the apartment and quickly started moving the furniture. They were very professional and did the best they could to finish as early as possible."

"This was a very small move of just the furniture out of an apartment but all movers quoted a minimum of 4 hours plus travel time. John was the only one to come out and take a look at the job, he then was also the only one that gave me a fixed price. The movers that came out were professional and did the job quickly. Would definitely recommend them."

"I was in search for movers to help me and my family move to NC. I didn't feel like doing the move myself this time around and sure I found this company OM Van Lines last minute. I was offered a great deal to get my move done and it wasn't as expensive as I thought I was going to be. My wife and family are happy and just wanted to say thank you guys. You guys made this a very pleasant experience. Highly recommend."

"Nationwide receives the highest rating from me! Brandon freely offered me the most valuable information I could have ever used! Then, when he found out that he had another move going in the same direction as the one I was inquiring about, I was offered a deeper discount! When I need a substantial move, he and his company will be my choice!!! Sincerely, Rebecca McMillian"

Moving questions, answered by experts

To make sure that your moving quote is fair, check current prices for hiring movers in your area. Your starting and final locations can affect the price. You should also make sure you include the cost of any specialty movers in your price estimate. Calculate your moving costs including the estimated expense of moving services and compare the figure to average costs in your area.

Renting a moving truck or using a shipping container (or moving pod) are typically the cheapest ways to move long-distance. For moving a few items, a container can cost as little as $700. Renting a standard-sized moving truck averages between $1,200 and $2,100. For longer distances, moving pods can become more cost-effective, as you can ship the pod to your destination and avoid transportation costs like gas, mileage, and lodging.

Gym equipment can be heavy, so it’s best to transport it using a furniture dolly. When dealing with treadmills, weight machines, or other bulky items, hiring professional movers or roping in some friends and renting a moving van makes sense.

If you need to move heavy furniture inside your house, like a grandfather clock, consider hiring professional movers for this service, too. Many moving companies advertise in-house moving services, including transporting heavy items to different rooms or floors of the house. It’s best to hire professional movers for this task to avoid damaging parts of your home, like narrow stairways or flooring, or the item during the process.

When loading a moving truck, the general rule is to load the heaviest and largest items first to create a stable base at the front of the truck, which helps balance the weight. You can start with large furniture like sofas, beds, mattresses, and tables to form a solid foundation, or begin by placing your heaviest boxes against the truck's walls to create a base layer. After the base is set, continue loading other large items like appliances and square furniture. Lighter and smaller objects, including most of your boxes, should be loaded last. They can be packed into gaps, around, and on top of the heavier items to maximize space. Following this order makes unloading easier and helps prevent damage to your belongings.
