Customers say: True professional

"We've had several different companies over the years refinishing our deck, H & M is by far the best overall in all areas of service. Quality of communication, clarity of bidding a job, scheduling, implementing and taking care of our property. The finished product is wonderful, our deck looks amazing and so proud of how it looks as it will be going on the market shortly. Marco worked closely with us for timing, which is critical in our case, and flexibility."

"Work was completed as expected. Crew members were prompt, cautious and cleaned up site after each day. Derrick was particularly helpful in choosing several special colors for the soffit and sun room. Result of work looked great. Had several compliments from neighbors."

"CPC Painting was great to work with! Larry quoted me a very reasonable price for painting my house. This was not an easy job though, I had some siding that was rotted and needed replaced. CPC painting said not a problem and had the siding completed as well as the painting priming done in a day and once my HOA approved my colors the house was done in a day and a half as well. My shutters arrived after they had painting but they offered to swing buy and install them. Very happy with the work, and would highly recommend CPC painting!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"Was able to accommodate my schedule and helpful by picking up the lumbar I ordered for the deck repair, since I didn't have the means to do so. He completed the job in the time frame he quoted and cleaned up afterwards."

"We hired Galto Residential Contracting to remove the popcorn ceiling from the entire first floor of our house, plus the second floor stairway and hallway areas. I was given a competitive bid (one of four bids received) and we scheduled to work. Andy Galto and his crew arrived as scheduled, and completed to project in a workman like fashion on a timely basis. Popcorn ceiling removal is inherently messy. The real issue is in prepping the ceiling drywall for a smooth finish. The contractor worked with us to get the smooth white finish we wanted, done to our satisfaction. The premises were cleaned up at the conclusion of the project, though we still had to deal with some of the drywall dust generated though the smooth sanding of the new ceiling. Overall, we are very pleased with the work done, and at a fair price."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Deck staining or painting safeguards wood against the elements through its protective layer, enhancing decay resistance, prolonging structural integrity, and improving visual appeal.

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

If you want to achieve a deeper, darker stain color, wait 5 to 10 minutes before wiping it off. However, wipe it off faster for a lighter tone. When wiping off the stain during this part of the process, be sure to work in the direction of the wood’s grain for best results.

Choosing the best color for your home exterior should factor in longevity as well as your personal taste. To keep your house looking newly painted as long as possible, stay away from red paint. Although red homes pop and are quintessential for country-style barns, red paint tends to fade fastest in the sun. Go with earth tones if you want paint that best resists fading.

Yes, you can waterproof any wood that has not already been treated. A good way to test this is to splash some water on it. If the water starts to bead up, the wood is treated and most likely doesn’t need another coating.
