"We are very pleased with the recent work that we had done with A1 Painting and Carpentry. I sent an inquiry through their website on a Sunday afternoon, for an estimate on an exterior painting project, and the next morning Eric was in contact with us. He was able to give us an estimate within a few days. Eric maintained excellent communication throughout the project. Victor, who was the crew lead for our project, also spoke with us numerous times while he was here, to make sure that the attention to detail we wanted was achieved. I will not hesitate to use A1 Painting and Carpentry for any future projects. Thanks!"

Small jobs welcome

"Drew and Dave restained my porch. They were fast to get me a quote, and I was excited they got started right away. They use quality stain and pointed out repairs that needed to happen to ensure my porch was stable. I have an older porch and am thrilled to have it maintained so that it lasts many more years. They were professional and always responded promptly to my questions. Drew encouraged me to take the time to choose a color of stain I loved. I am so happy with the end products."

Customers say: True professional

"H&M did a superior job on all of the interior paint on our new home. They came in the day after closing and worked to get the job done even during the holidays and all for a very fair price! I canâ t say enough about the results, willingness to work around our schedules (we were coordinating multiple services at the same time so that we were ready on move in day), and the awesome customer service! Thanks you guys - we will see you this spring for exterior paint ð ð »ð !"

"From start to finish, Foothills Painting did a great job. Tara started off by setting up the estimate. Wes did the estimate on a chilly and rainy day but took his time and was very helpful. The project manager, Paul, was very helpful and answered my questions throughly. Rachel helped verify my color selection, and Adam and Ed did a great job staining the fence. They were courteous, careful and considerate. I would definitely recommend them and will use them again. Thank you, Foothills Painting, for making this a very good experience."

"Tony removed the wallpaper from my entry way, down the hallway and up the stairs to the second floor and painted the walls. He had all the right equipment and plenty of â KNOW HOWâ to get the job done. He is easy to deal with and very polite. He cares about his work and his main goal is to have a satisfied customer. I would recommend Tony."

"Work started Wednesday and was completed today. I needed my shed & garage painted along with the trim around the house. My house was built in 1912 and needed special attention . Chris and Caesar did an excellent job! Plus, they were very respectful of my property and I just couldn't be happier right now! Thank you THAT 1 PAINTER!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The staining or painting process involves cleaning the deck, sanding surfaces, applying a primer (if needed), and carefully applying stain or paint for an even, lasting finish.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

To make sure the paint won’t bubble as you apply it, make sure to paint on a day that’s cooler than 85 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature is too high, the paint won’t dry evenly, which can result in bubbles forming on the surface. Another way to prevent paint from bubbling is to clean the walls, apply primer, and let everything dry completely before you begin.

The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage.

Yes, it's a good idea to sand the wall with fine-grit sandpaper after spackling, especially if you plan on painting. You can do this by hand or using a sander, but the idea is to ensure the spackle is flush with the wall. Sanding will give your wall a smooth, uniform finish and help your paint and wallpaper stay put.
