"First-rate service with a personal touch! Itâ s hard to find this kind of care and attention anymore when looking for home repairs. We needed our roof redone and a bunch of electrical repairs. "Travis, our electrician from Ion Electric, did the rough-in on our basement. He was extremely caring, attentive, and responsive. In comparison to the wide array of characters we had quote our project, he immediately stood out as someone who could work around a family's schedule while doing a fantastic, fast installation. His work was professional and very fast. His quote was very reasonable, and he worked with us to make sure the job was done right. I will be recommending Travis to anyone who needs an electrician in the Denver / Boulder area."

"Woman who called me to give me more info and schedule was excellent and very friendly, great communication with her. The owner, I believe, who came to look at the job and give me a bid was professional and efficient as were the 3 guys who did the work. There was a 2 hour minimum work window which meant a $200 starting base price. They were done with my two projects (installing the outlet and fixing a hallway light) in less than an hour, so I guess I should have had more projects to get my full money's worth. They did a great job, though."

"During a heat wave our AC decided to quit working. I contacted six or seven companies and left messages. Lion Home Service was the only one that called back in 24 hrs. The estimator and the installers were all friendly and efficient at getting the work done."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

In some situations, yes. Never try to put biofuel into any home generator without checking the specifics first. If a generator has the ability to run on diesel, it can also run pure biofuel (the clear kind made from seed oils, for example). But if you are using biofuel made from animal fats or vegetable oils, the generator will need significant modifications before it can handle a sludgier type of biofuel.

You can expect a diesel generator to last for up to 30,000 hours of use, which works out to 20 to 25 years with the proper maintenance, of course. That depends on how much you use it, so a diesel generator used for emergencies a couple of times a year will last a lot longer than a generator that takes over for a faulty electrical grid every month for a day or two.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.

It might seem counterintuitive, but installing a generator transfer switch will save you money in the long run. While you’ll have to pay between $400 and $2,500 to have the transfer switch installed, you’ll recoup that amount later on when you don’t have to pay for expensive repairs to your appliances, devices, and electrical system that may have burned out, overloaded, or stopped working due to a sudden loss of power or an incorrect hook up of a generator to your home

Whole-house generators need to be installed on level ground several feet away from walls and other objects. Because they tap into the electrical system directly, they usually need to be close to your home electrical panel for a transfer switch installation. It also helps with installation if they are near to a gas line or propane tank installation.
