"Daniel and his crew did an excellent job. Prompt and thorough communication through the whole process. The retaining wall they put in is sturdy and looks great, plus they finished a day ahead of schedule. His crew also helped remove some old sod and debris in the yard which saved us from needing to rent a dumpster."

"After our neighbor’s recommendation we hired D & D Tree Service & Landscape to build a fence for our backyard. We are extremely pleased with their work and the company. Everyone was extremely efficient and professional. Our new fence is beautiful. We have also decided to hire them to install a sprinkler system and sod in the backyard."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Have worked with Gabriel and his team now on multiple occasions to complete massive back and front yard projects at our home. We're super pleased with the results and would definitely recommend them without reservation! Always very professional and responsive, and the quality of the work delivered was at a high bar. In the backyard, they completely transformed our landscaping with a full wrap-around fence install, plus new irrigation and sprinkler systems, and full sodding. We had concrete poured next to the house to have a pad for a hot tub, as well as a separate seating area for a fire pit. Both of these were concrete stamped and colored which looks really classy as compared to just "plain" concrete. In the front, they completely demolished out a cactus garden and old shrubs and bushes, building a full wooden pergola and trellises for grape growing, as well as putting in some new trees and planters...it looks infinitely better and nicer now! Have greatly appreciated working with Gabe and his team, and will certainly consider them again going forward."

"Rich and his team did a great job putting down a paver walkway/entertainment space and replacing our 30+yr deck with composite Trex. He suggested lighting on the columns which we love, and where we noticed the lawn was higher in one spot along the walkway, he added a small retaining wall. Overall his team is fast, polite and great to work with. Can't wait to bring him out for the next project!"

"We were looking for someone who could take care of a big landscaping project in our new home. After meeting with several companies and receiving a couple of estimates, we finally decided to hire Summit Landscaping LLC. My wife and I had a bunch of ideas regarding the design and elements of the yards, some of them simple, others not so much. This guys listened to everything we had in mind, took the best out of all our ideas and turn them into reality!. Although we thought about this as a challenging project because of all the work needed (retaining walls, sprinkler system, sod, plants, rock, lighting...), they pull it out flawlessly. The quality of the materials is great, they work in a clean and detail manner and they guided us thru the whole project, we really felt involved with them in the process. We are more than happy with the outcome of our project and will recommend Summit Landscaping LLC to anyone."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

Yes, to build a retaining wall, a permit is required. Similarly, any repairs or modifications to an existing retaining wall require permits. If the planned wall measures higher than 4 feet, most municipalities require designs and permits come through a licensed engineer. In some locations, if the wall is shorter than 4 feet, a permit may not be required. For the requirements in your area, contact your local government.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

With foundation walls, the slab on grade and force at the top of the wall is resisted by flooring. With retaining walls, the force at the top of the wall is not resisted.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.
