"I was interested in a French drain system. Matt pointed out to me that that was not the cause of my problem. He advised me on what to test out and was relieved to find that a simple non-plumbing remedy fixed my problems. I hope that all of your employees are as honest and caring as Matt. Based on my experience with him I am quite positive I will be contacting when a plumbing issue does occur."

"The drain works beautifully now. There is eventually going to be problems that require replacement of pipe. The house is old. That is why a camera was required. Plumber Anthony Rivera is very professional and does good work."

"Rooter Guy LLC got the job done right. The technician who came to the house looked at our other drains to make sure that they were working properly since our bathroom vanity drain wasn’t draining correctly. He was very knowledgeable and gave us some tips to help prevent drains from clogging."

"High 5 plumber James installed a new kitchen faucet and connected dishwasher, along with installing all shut off valves, disposal, and drain hook ups under sink for our remodel. James was professional, courteous, communicative, and competent. He took the time necessary to complete the job, including making a trip to pick up a part. James explained what he was doing, ensured all connections were sound with no leaks, and cleaned up after himself. The finished job is clean with minimal pipes used under sink, allowing more room for storage of dish soap, etc. High 5 Plumbing and James are highly recommended, would definitely call this company again. You may find cheaper plumbers out there, but the peace of mind for a job done right is worth the price."

"I had a clogged kitchen drain on a weekend, a challenging time to find a reasonably priced plumbing company. After several unsuccessful calls, I made an appointment with an expensive service for the same day. I received a call back later in the day from Jason at Afford-a Router. He answered my questions and made an appointment for the same day. He arrived at the house, reviewed and resolved the problem in twenty minutes. He was professional, answered my questions, and the charge was very reasonable, considering it was a weekend. I highly recommend their services and will use them again."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

The P-trap (or S-trap in older homes) under your shower is designed to prevent sewer gas from coming back up, so you shouldn’t normally experience foul odors coming from your shower drain. If you do, the vent stack that introduces air into your plumbing system may be clogged, or you may have a more severe sewer main blockage. In either case, hire a plumber to fix the issue for you.

You can try several easy methods to unclog a drain, one of the easiest and most effective of which is to use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. This will help dislodge and dissolve the clog to move it down the drain pipes. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda into the drain, followed by 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Dump several cups of boiling water (or hot water if you have PVC pipes) into the drain and let sit for up to one hour. Run hot water to clear the drain.

Baking soda and vinegar aren’t just great for making a volcano for your kid’s science project. You can also pour this dynamic duo down your shower drain to dissolve hair clogs. If that doesn’t do the trick, you can step it up with a commercial liquid drain cleaner.

Bleach is generally not recommended for your shower drains. Although diluted bleach can technically help clean your drain, it will not unclog your pipes. In fact, bleach can harm your plumbing system because it’s so powerful. The bleach can change the color of your sink and even corrode metal pipes and fittings.

Often, people reach for bleach because it's already in their house. But it's worth getting a plunger or a drain snake for the job instead. It'll be a lot less money to buy a new plunger than to pay a plumber to repair or replace damaged pipes.

To keep window wells from filling up with water, you need to stay on top of maintenance. Remove debris as it fills up, and regularly loosen the gravel at the base if it’s become compacted. You can also reslope your yard to make sure water flows away from the window well (and your home’s foundation), and you can even install a window well cover to prevent debris from building up. Installing an actual drainpipe at the base of the well can also prevent window well drainage problems.
