"He was awesome! I don't know how many people came out because wasn't here. I think it was two guys, but I'm not really certain. We really couldn't tell where they had to trench or anything and they just did a really nice job on installing the sprinkler to our satisfaction. Then, they explained to us, and they had some ideas for improving it. They talked to my husband about where to put different things. It works great, and I was really pleased with them. They left the area spotless. I think I picked up one wrench and that was on the sidewalk. What they did really well was the layout and they had to go up underneath of the driveway, and they didn't really tear up the lawn. They knew what they were doing. They designed it, and it was kind of difficult for them and they got it going really well. I really didn't deal with them a whole lot, really nice, personable. I'd give them an A. I wouldn't recommend them if I didn't give everybody an A. I would tell you if they stunk. We are using them again next spring."

"We needed some rework on our already landscaped backyard. D&D provided us with a beautiful "turf" lawn, reconfiguration of existing mulch and plants, new ornamental grasses and evergreen trees along the back fence, and repositioning of larger rocks. Professional, courteous and dedicated workers in every aspect. Let them make your backyard beautiful for the first time, or a refresh to make it enjoyable again."

Customers say: Quality work

"After a brief mixup about authorization, Manuel came out assessed the issue as a defective sprinkler valve. Since the system was 41 years old he suggested replacing all three valves on the same manifold. He gave me an acceptable price for the repair. His technician came out the next day and made the repairs. It works fine and the cleanup and lawn restoration around the valve box looks good."

Customers say: Quick response

"Minh Le does fantastic work. We needed to re-do our backyard, increase the area of grass coverage. He came by the day we called him and worked within our budget. He was able to work in the yard with little need for us to be home. Minh went above and beyond by tidying up our backyard to make sure the final product looked great. He was very detailed in ensuring the new sprinkler heads and the existing ones provided adequate coverage over the new lawn. He even repaired a broken sprinkler head in the front lawn for us. Overall Minh Le is very responsive, great to talk to, and over-delivers."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

You can leave grass clippings on the lawn, depending on their length. You don’t want to completely cover new grass and block it from sunlight, or encourage moss crowd out the more delicate grass. However, short clippings are usually fine to leave on the lawn. In some cases, they can be beneficial: Clippings can be a source of fertilizer and help protect the ground as young grass blades develop.

In general, cool-season grasses such as fescue grass, ryegrass, and Kentucky bluegrass are best for creating a striped lawn. Warm-season grasses like bermuda and zoysia grass don't curl as much, so grass stripes aren't as easy to see. If you live in a climate that’s better suited for warm-season grass, zoysia grass will typically be your best option.

The best hardiness zones for St. Augustine grass are USDA growing zones 8, 9, and 10. However, with a bit of extra attention, it'll also grow well in zones 7, 11, and 12.

The best time to water your lawn is in the early morning. This timing allows the grass to dry during the day, which reduces the risk of mildew and fungus, and ensures the lawn has moisture to withstand the day's heat. Watering during the peak afternoon sun is inefficient, as the water evaporates too quickly.

Watering in the evening or at night is not recommended. Prolonged moisture on the grass overnight can promote fungal diseases. Additionally, nighttime conditions can be colder and windier, which may cause water to be blown away or prevent it from being properly absorbed by the soil.

Orchard grass seeds can spread quite easily, traveling with the wind as well as birds and animals. Common grass seed packets, especially in the popular tall fescue variety, may contain the occasional orchard grass seed by accident. Always purchase high-quality turf grass seed without "other crop seeds" mixed in.
