"Chimney Sweeps of America covered our chimney inspection and cleaning. Their helpful team communicated well and was able to arrive early with a heads up and get the job done. The company owner was the one on our house call. He inspected from the roof and interior of the home and provided helpful feedback on our chimney and how to best maintain it moving forward. I appreciated the thorough work and guidance Chimney Sweeps of America provided. I would definitely recommend Chimney Sweeps of America to anyone looking for a chimney inspection or cleaning."

"I had two different quotes for this job. The competing vendor told me that I needed to install a cap. Anthony's Chimney Sweeps inspected and found I already had a cap. He saved me from being charged for a Chimney cap that I didn't need. I really enjoyed working with Anthony. He not only showed me the cracks in the old panels after replacing them, but he also painted the new panels to prevent them from being stained. He is very friendly and professional. I will definitely keep him in mind when I need to have my Chimney cleaned, inspected, or repaired in the future."

Customers say: True professional

"Franco came promptly and gave me an estimate to repair the water damage on my chimney. Upon inspection, he found my furnace stack had severe rusting. In the end, my chimney and stack were repaired, re-tucked where needed, and power washed. He sealed and caulked the chimney and it looks brand new. I am very happy with Franco and his team for the long day they workedâ until 7 pm to finish the job and clean up. Needless to say, Iâ m very pleased with the result."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

If you choose tile for your roof, take the time to hire a true tile professional. Look at trusted online review sites to find a top-rated roofing contractor. This helps you zero in on great contractors while avoiding ones who bait and switch you with fluctuating bids.

After you’ve narrowed down a few great candidates with reasonable bids, there are some important questions to ask roofers before you hire. Be sure they are licensed, bonded, and insured before signing a contract. Once you find a roofer who checks off all your boxes, you’re ready to get your project started.

The four types of roof sheathing are plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), planks, and tone-and-groove boards. The overwhelming majority of homes use the first two (especially OSB) and the other two are not often seen outside of special use cases. Methods of sheathing include solid sheathing, open sheathing where there are gaps, and plank sheathing. Most roofs are solid sheathing.

A tarp can temporarily stop a roof leak, but how long the solution works heavily depends on the placement and size of the leak. While a tarp can be a temporary solution, it’s crucial to have a professional inspect and repair the leak as soon as possible to implement a permanent fix.

In most cases, a roof inspection will include a visual inspection of the exterior roofing materials, an interior inspection for signs of leaking or roof damage, and an assessment of the structural stability of your roof and the materials supporting it. Some things your roof inspector will look for include the following:

  • Missing or damaged shingles, flashing, or sealant

  • Signs of old age

  • Signs of leaks, including mold growth and water stains

  • Potential issues, like tree branches touching your roof

  • Signs of a loss of structural integrity

It’s a good idea to have a roof inspection once every two or three years to catch issues early and avoid major property damage. However, if you recently had a new roof installed, you can safely wait around five to ten years before scheduling an inspection, especially since your workmanship warranty should last about that long. You might also want to schedule more frequent or one-off roof inspections if you are buying or selling a home, if you have issues with leaks or visible damage, or if your homeowner’s insurance company requires an updated inspection.
