"I couldn’t be happier with the work done by Edge & Ivy! They completely transformed my yard and did it all for an amazing price that beat every other quote I received. The team was professional, efficient, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. They showed up on time, communicated every step of the process, and left everything looking spotless! My yard looks better than it ever has, and I’ve already gotten compliments from neighbors. Highly recommend to anyone looking for reliable outdoor work without breaking the bank!"

"We have used Ross and his team for a number of projects, from sprinkler repair, general landscape work around our property, minor landscape projects (rock, trees, and sprinkler), to a full landscape job with fencing, rock, flagstone, trees, shrubs, sprinkler, and water feature. His professionalism in the design phase, working with the HOA for approval, installation, and follow-up were outstanding. The quality of work is excellent, he and his crew are prompt and professional, and he provided incredible value. We give our unqualified recommendation to Ross. We have referred him to friends and relatives and he has worked on at least five additional projects from our referrals with great feedback and results."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Some trees, such as silver maples, birches, sycamores, and scotch pines, shed their bark naturally. If your tree is not one that does this, it might have fallen prey to pests, fungi, or diseases. It could also simply be suffering from an extreme weather change, such as a snowstorm or heat wave. If you’re still stumped, consulting with a pro can help you diagnose your tree’s specific problem.

Trees should be pruned every two to five years, depending on its age and type. Young trees should be inspected and pruned every two to three years. Mature trees should be inspected and trimmed every three to five years, and fruit trees should be pruned annually with a careful eye on seasonal growth. Evergreens typically don’t need pruning, unless branches or limbs are damaged, diseased, or harboring pests.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

Leaving the tree stump and letting it rot is never a good idea, as this leads to insect infestations and other frustrations. Additionally, decomposing trunks are at risk for diseases that spread out to the remaining plants and trees in the yard, thus ruining your whole outdoor aesthetic. It's usually best to remove the stump at the same time you remove the tree.

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.
