"They completed the work as promised, but we had a few issues.  Specifically, they left debris in the ducts which we had to remove ourselves, and they didn't do a thorough job with the carpet because the carpet on our stairs looked worse after the cleaning.  Additionally, they didn't wear booties while inside the house and left dirty footprints in some areas.  Ultimately, it was a mediocre experience."

Also known as hot water extraction, steam cleaning uses heat to penetrate deep into the carpet fibers, effectively removing dirt, allergens, and bacteria without leaving behind a sticky residue. This method also tends to cause less wear on your carpet over time and leaves the fibers feeling softer. While a steamer can be more expensive, the cost is often justified by the longevity of your carpet. Shampooing may be a suitable option for quickly fixing odors or cleaning minor surface stains. However, it can leave behind a soapy film that attracts more dirt, defeating the purpose of the cleaning. The best choice depends on your needs; for a thorough, deep clean, steam is the superior option, while shampooing can handle light, surface-level dirt.

There aren’t health dangers to sleeping in a room where the carpet was just cleaned. In some cases, strong-scented detergents may trigger allergies in sensitive people, but otherwise there’s not much to worry about. 

A greater concern is walking across damp carpet, which is undesirable. To air out the room and help the carpet dry, it’s a good idea to stay off the floors for about 24 hours if possible. If you’re cleaning carpets in the bedroom, you may want to make alternative sleeping plans. 

Vinegar and baking soda can effectively remove old carpet stains, and there are a few common methods for application. One method involves applying them separately: sprinkle baking soda over the stain, let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes, then vacuum it up. Afterward, blot the area with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water. Another method combines the ingredients on the stain to create a foaming reaction that helps lift it. To do this, pour a generous layer of dry baking soda over the stain. Then, in a spray bottle, mix distilled white vinegar with warm water and a few drops of dish soap, and spray this solution over the baking soda. Let the mixture sit for several hours until dry, then wipe or vacuum up the residue and blot the area with a clean towel. You can repeat the process if the stain persists.

Depending on your type of carpet, a wet/dry vacuum is a great final step to removing blood stains, but it will only help after you’ve used another method to pull out the bulk of the stain. A good option is to use a wet cleaning method, then apply baking soda to the stain, and then follow that by vacuuming thoroughly. Remember that this vacuum type does not work on all carpet types. Wool can shrink with this method, so always check the cleaning instructions from your carpet’s manufacturer.

Baking soda is an easy and effective way to deodorize an area rug. For minor odors, sprinkle some baking soda over the rug, brush it in gently with your hand or a microfiber cloth, and let it sit for an hour before vacuuming it out. For persistent odors, mix 1 cup of baking soda with 4 cups of water and spray it evenly over your rug. Let the mixture dry, and then vacuum the rug thoroughly. You can also use a commercial rug deodorizer, but make sure you match the product to your rug material to avoid damage.
