"Anthony with Applewood was very professional and down-to-earth. He completed the install my overhead fan/light in an office area very quickly and without any problems. My fan/light work perfect and I'm so pleased! Anthony also answered my questions about what was needed to fix other electrical areas in my condo when I am ready."

"Prior to hiring Topshelf to install a wholehouse steam humidifier I spoke with several companies. Darrell responded quickly, was knowledgeable and willing to explain and answer all my questions and concerns. His team arrived on time, introduced themselves, followed Covid safety measures, put shoe coverings on everytime they entered my house. When the installation was completed, they made sure I knew how to operate the system. No trace of them was left behind only a house that now is humidified and overall much warmer with a lower temperature setting. I would highly recommend this company!"

"Tipping Hat installed a new HVAC system for our home. The estimate was for the work to take two days and they needed an extra morning due to a part that was not available. We needed both a mechanical inspection and an electrical inspection. They scheduled the inspections, allowing us to pick a day that worked for us. The mechanical inspector noted that the installation exceeded what is required by code. We are very happy to recommend this business and plan to use them for future plumbing, heating and electrical projects."

Bathroom Fan Installation questions, answered by experts

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.

Your bathroom exhaust fan shouldn't be loud. However, bath fans come in a wide variety of models, price points, and loudness characteristics, and yours may be louder or quieter than others you notice. Economy models tend to be the noisiest, with levels of 4.0 sones or more, which is about the sound of an electric shaver, while some high-end models can be barely audible.

Your blower motor may make a loud sound if the bearings overheat or wear down as your system ages. You may also hear loud noises coming from your blower if it’s struggling to pull in air due to dirty or damaged ducts, closed or blocked vents, or a dirty air filter. Typically, this causes a loud whistling sound.

While it may seem like it makes sense to put a fan in the attic to cool it down, it won’t be as effective as installing attic fans. Ventilation installed near the peak of the roof, whether passive (just allowing heat to escape) or active (drawing the air up and out) will be more effective at cooling the attic.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.
