"They did an excellent job.  We live in Boulder, Colorado which had been hit hard by floods this past fall.  Many of us had to replace carpets in our basements, and the installers were all booked for months. We found Dominic on Angie's list and since he was not directly in Boulder...took a chance he might be available sooner. He returned our call immediately, came and gave an estimate the next day, ordered in the new carpeting and installed it perfectly and promptly within two weeks.  So much better than the 2 month estimates we had been given by others. As a result, we had a finished basement in time for our Thanksgiving Holidays.  Now THAT was something to truly feel grateful for!

"The project went well. Jess went above and beyond what was asked of her. It is incredible what she can accomplish. We were fortunate in that we were not yet living in the house she helped to gut and rebuild so there was no conflict of scheduling or getting in the way."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

In homes that have a gas furnace, it's typically the heating system that uses the most gas. That explains why your gas bill is almost always higher in the winter and other colder months than it is in the summer. Other appliances that may use gas include your water heater, clothes dryer, and stove.

Annual inspections, soot removal, and clean-burning fuel help maintain a safe and efficient chimney.

The cost to replace a chimney is about $10,000 on average and can cost up to $15,000, depending on the size, accessibility, materials, and extent of the replacement. Sometimes tearing the chimney down to the roof line and rebuilding it is an option. But if the chimney's internal structure deteriorates badly enough, a complete demolition down to the fireplace or the foundation may be necessary.

If you have a chimney, you need a flue or chimney cap. The right covering keeps rain, debris, and animals from getting into your flue or chimney and causing damage. A flue or chimney cap also provides fire protection. The mesh insert around the cap keeps sparks from flying out of the chimney and igniting leaves and other materials.

Some of the reasons a chimney damper won't close properly include shoddy installation, age-related damage, or heavy snow or ice affecting a top-sealing type. Poor chimney maintenance and a buildup of rust, debris, or creosote can also cause dampers to jam. Annual inspections and chimney sweep costs are worth it to help you avoid a damper disaster.
