"Prior to the plumber arriving to our house we spoke a couple of times with Billy over the phone and Billy is very calm, courteous and knowledgeable. He made us feel very comfortable that the professionals at Drainline Services were our neighbors. Danny Daley was the plumber that came to our house. He arrived on time and was very professional throughout the time he worked on our house. We had a leak near the main water inlet into our house in our basement. He explained the nature of the leak and the work that needed to be done in a very helpful and friendly manner, answering all of our questions before quoting us a very reasonable price. He then completed the work immediately for the repair. He even took a few minutes to help us with putting on a bathtub fixture that we were having difficulties with at no extra charge. Our home is our most important investment and we definitely trust Drainline Services to protect and care for our home. They definitely exceeded our expectations."

"This project started as grading my yard, but Bud listened to what I was wanting to accomplish and was able to provide additional services including building a fence for my yard. I had four companies come out to provide a quote. Only two companies actually submitted a quote. There was over $1,000 difference between the two quotes. I will turn to BMG Services LLC for all of my future needs and can not give enough praise for the work done!!!!!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.

If not properly maintained, an underground downspout may damage your home's foundation. A clogged downspout can back up, causing water to pool around the base of your home and seep into the foundation. Regular inspections and maintenance keep your downspout in good working order, preventing damage and protecting your home.

No, your basement dehumidifier doesn’t need to be on 24/7. While it’s an excellent tool for tackling damp, musty air, especially in humid seasons, leaving it running nonstop can backfire. Over-drying the space can mess with your sinuses, warp wood, and even crack certain materials. Instead, only use your humidifier when moisture levels rise above 50%, and then give it a break when the humidity levels drop.

The best type of basement ventilation system depends on your budget, the moisture in your basement’s air, and the types of windows you have down there. You should consider all of these factors when choosing a ventilation system. However, the most effective method for basement ventilation is an energy recovery ventilator (ERV) or a whole-house ventilation system, which preheats or precools incoming air from the outside while also managing water vapor.

You can seal a concrete slab by cleaning the surface, filling in any cracks, etching the surface, applying a sealer, and letting it dry. Concrete slabs don't typically need sealing, but you can use a topical concrete sealer if you notice signs of water damage. If you haven't already fixed the cause of the leak, then you'll want to repair the plumbing before you seal a concrete slab.
