Small jobs welcome

"Isabel and Ben were great! I had my chimney inspected and cleaned. I also had my dryer vent cleaned. They found very clogged and shoddy vent work in my crawl space for the dryer. They were able to fix, clean and get the duct work up to code same day. They showed me pictures and videos so I could understand the severity of the issue. I appreciate their clear communication throughout the entire process."

"Every time Angela or I look out the back door we're awestruck. We knew basically what we wanted but didn't have any real vision. We just stayed out of the way and magic happened - three absolutely beautiful patios connected with stairs we could never have imagined surrounded by native stone. Artisanship, craftsmanship, professionalism. Extraordinary. Magic."

"I cannot recommend Veltkamp Masonry highly enough. Isaac and his team did exceptional work on both my home’s structure and interior. We had a serious issue with our porch foundation that was putting stress on the entire roof. Isaac expertly jacked up and repaired the foundation with precision and care, resolving what could have been a major long-term problem. He also completely retiled our shower and corrected subpar workmanship left by the original builder. The difference is night and day—the attention to detail and quality of finish exceeded expectations. Isaac is knowledgeable, honest, and takes real pride in his work. It’s rare to find someone who can handle both structural repairs and detailed finish work at such a high level. If you want the job done right the first time, Veltkamp Masonry is it."

"Daniel and the team were professional, considerate, honest and timely with their work. We had over 5 bids for our project which was a large investment and went through a long vetting process. Daniel answered all my questions honestly and provided a consultative approach to the project. We had a concrete pour and a deck rebuild D&D could do both, most contractors could only do the deck and said we needed to outsource the concrete elsewhere. The deck project was done in two weeks and the outcome was better than what I had imagined. The team was very clean and picked up all remnants of the materials, I highly recommend D&D for any deck or patio repair, rebuild, or new build. They are honest and hard working, will definitely give a referral or use for any future projects on our house. Glad I found this team. Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Soapstone wood stoves hold onto heat the longest, which means you can burn less fuel and enjoy the warmth for longer. Additionally, catalytic wood stoves include a catalytic combustor that can reduce emissions and create a cleaner burn no matter what the stove is made of. Of course, the most efficient wood stoves also tend to be costlier up front—but they can still save you money in the long run.

No, a chimney crown is not the same as a chimney cap. A chimney crown is a flat cement area on top of a masonry chimney. It starts where the masonry part of the chimney ends at the very top and domes upward toward the flue opening. A chimney cap sits on top of the crown over the flue. It is usually made of metal and allows smoke to escape without letting in rainwater.

In some aspects, yes, new wood stoves are better than old ones. For example, today’s EPA emission limits for wood-burning stoves are much lower than they were several decades ago. Stoves that meet these stricter standards produce less air pollution, reduce fire risks, and decrease your risk of inhaling harmful particles.

Wood is classified as either hardwood or softwood. For firewood, hardwoods are generally the best choice as they tend to burn longer, hotter, and produce less smoke than softwoods. Recommended hardwoods include oak, hickory, maple, cherry, ash, beech, birch, elm, and walnut. Oak is a particularly good option as it's widely available, slow-burning, and doesn't produce much smoke or sparks. Some woods, like oak, hickory, and cherry, also emit a pleasant scent. It is best to avoid softwoods such as eucalyptus, poplar, and willow, as they create a lot of smoke and have a high moisture content that makes them difficult to light and burn efficiently.

A chimney liner is a good thing to invest in regardless of if you have issues or not. Chimney liners increase the safety of your fireplace. Without a chimney liner, the gasses that get emitted during burning could eventually damage the masonry and create a major fire hazard in your home.
