"Isabel and Ben were great! I had my chimney inspected and cleaned. I also had my dryer vent cleaned. They found very clogged and shoddy vent work in my crawl space for the dryer. "They contacted me right away and set up a very quick appointment. He gave me an estimate of the cleaning I would need. They gave me an appointment window, contacted me early, because he was running early, to let me know he was on his way and how long it would take for him to get here. He even offered to bring me a coffee or tea! After we talked about the trouble we have been having with our fireplace he laid out a tarp and started cleaning and checking for the problem. After he found the problem, he explained my problem and my options for repair. As well as the cost options. I chose what would work and he gave me an estimate of how long it would take. After he completed the repairs he showed me how everything worked and how to shut off the gas, because I did not know how to do that before. He cleaned up and was very, very courteous! So hard to find good customer service these days and someone who takes pride in their work. The fireplace looks awesome!"

You can let a fire burn out in a fireplace as long as you or someone else will stick around to monitor it until it goes completely out. This may take several hours. To prepare, stop adding fuel to the fire well before you’re ready to call it a night. If you’re using the fireplace for warmth, you’ll want to cover up in some blankets as the flame dies down.

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

The damper, located just above the firebox, can open or close the chimney flue. The damper should remain closed unless there’s a fire burning in the fireplace. Closing the damper prevents energy loss through the chimney and cold air from seeping into the home during the winter. Opening the damper helps maintain airflow when there is a fire and prevents smoke and gases from venting into the house.

You should never block both the top and bottom of your chimney. Proper airflow is essential because the temperature inside the chimney will still fluctuate as your house warms and cools. Moisture can build up without ventilation, leading to dampness in your walls over time. Blocking the top prevents debris and animals from entering, but the chimney still needs air circulation to avoid condensation issues. Allowing the chimney to breathe maintains the health of your home and prevents long-term damage.
