"Fireplace Solutions did a fantastic- quality job on my fireplace facing remodel and insert installation. The workers arrived on time and early every day, They were very particular about protecting carpet and walls & furniture while work was in progress. The installers were professional craftsmen, they worked well with each other and were polite and friendly to us, the customer. I highly recommend Fireplace Solutions."

Small jobs welcome

"Isabel and Ben were great! I had my chimney inspected and cleaned. I also had my dryer vent cleaned. They found very clogged and shoddy vent work in my crawl space for the dryer. They were able to fix, clean and get the duct work up to code same day. They showed me pictures and videos so I could understand the severity of the issue. I appreciate their clear communication throughout the entire process."

"I cannot recommend Veltkamp Masonry highly enough. Isaac and his team did exceptional work on both my home’s structure and interior. We had a serious issue with our porch foundation that was putting stress on the entire roof. Isaac expertly jacked up and repaired the foundation with precision and care, resolving what could have been a major long-term problem. He also completely retiled our shower and corrected subpar workmanship left by the original builder. The difference is night and day—the attention to detail and quality of finish exceeded expectations. Isaac is knowledgeable, honest, and takes real pride in his work. It’s rare to find someone who can handle both structural repairs and detailed finish work at such a high level. If you want the job done right the first time, Veltkamp Masonry is it."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Depending on who’s doing the estimating, about 22,000 to 25,000 chimney fires happen each year in the United States. Given the fact that millions of Americans have fireplaces (and chimneys), that means chimney fires aren’t exactly common—but they’re not rare, either. Since they’re so dangerous, it’s important to take precautions to prevent them.

Yes, pellet stoves can serve as a primary heating source in colder climates, provided they are properly sized for the space and maintained regularly. They are capable of generating sufficient heat to keep homes comfortable during winter months. However, in regions with extremely low temperatures, you may need supplemental heating to ensure consistent warmth, especially during prolonged cold spells.

A chimney cap typically lasts between three and 25 years. This wide range is due to several variables, including the material it's made from, the local climate, and how frequently you use your fireplace. Living in an area with severe weather can shorten its lifespan. Regular inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs as needed can help your chimney cap last as long as possible.

In homes that have a gas furnace, it's typically the heating system that uses the most gas. That explains why your gas bill is almost always higher in the winter and other colder months than it is in the summer. Other appliances that may use gas include your water heater, clothes dryer, and stove.

Modern gas fireplaces are relatively efficient and don't burn excessive amounts of gas, especially compared to older models. A gas fireplace might use between 10,000 to 40,000 BTUs per hour; the total amount of gas used depends on the fireplace's size, heat output, and how often it's in use. To help keep your running costs down, consider using a thermostat and turning off the fireplace when not needed to minimize gas consumption
