"We hired Wright Brothers to do our basement remodel that included a full bar, guest bedroom, bathroom, and a lot of custom millwork (i.e built in entertainment center, wainscoting, base trim and window casing). Although we had a design in mind before we hired Wright Brothers, they were able to offer suggestions to improve what we had already started. Their prices were very fair and the communication from the beginning to the end of the project was outstanding. We never felt pressured to do anything and they were always upfront and transparent when items outside the scope of work were identified. Guests are constantly amazed when they walk in our basement and see the before and after pictures. It is a place our family will use for many years to come thanks to the quality, dependability and integrity Cameron and Jordan put into their jobs."

"We just had our basement finished, and the sub-contractors that were brought in did a great job. We never had to deal with anything. It was all managed by Seth and Phil. We received a finished basement with everything that we wanted."

"They finished my basement. I would definitely recommend them based on project. They were courteous, clean, and always on time. They respected my new born's sleep schedule as well, which really mattered to me. They went above and beyond. Definitely a good company to work with."

"Hometown Construction was an excellent partner in the construction of my deck and basement remodel. Josh was professional, listened to my concerns and finished on time and on budget. His subcontractors emulated the same values and professionalism as Josh."

"The project is almost finished and everything is looking great. Travis and Jay are great at communicating and giving me updates. I opted for a partial remodel of my basement, but will definitely hire them again to finish it completely."

"Colorado Custom Basements did an outstanding job on two bathroom remodels. These were both complete demo's - they did awesome! The team was a great group of people to work with - from the owners to the tradesmen, all who took great pride in their work. Loved all of them! We were on a tight deadline due to my son's wedding - they met my deadline with a week to spare. We've had several compliments on their work - price was right, too. I definitely would refer them to everyone and anyone - great group of people."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.

Yes, adding a walkout basement will usually bump up your property value. Most homeowners prefer walk out basements because the exposed wall that’s level with the ground provides more utility via a ground-level exterior entrance, and they can fit full windows, which adds natural light and ventilation to the basement area. The only exception might be in areas prone to tornadoes, as walkout basements aren’t as safe as regular basements during a tornado, particularly if they include large windows or glass sliding doors.

Living in a finished basement is acceptable, but only if the space has the proper points of egress and includes smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to ensure the safety of the occupants. A good way to ensure your finished basement is suitable for use as living space is to get the basement finishing project properly permitted.

Yes, you can install a summer kitchen or kitchenette in your basement. They serve similar purposes as outdoor kitchens, keeping the main floor of the house cool and providing another space to cook and congregate. Basement kitchens are also a worthwhile alternative for homeowners without much space in the backyard. They come with a few logistical questions to sort out, though, like ventilation and waterproofing.

Adding a bathroom to your basement can increase your home value since homes with multiple bathrooms sell for more. The return on investment (ROI) for a basement bathroom is 50% to 75%. The actual return varies with your home and location. Adding a half bath to your home increases the value by 2.9% while finishing a basement increases the home value by 6.6%.
