"they laid a small tile floor for us. The quality of the work was only so so, but when they came out for the walkthrough prior to payment they proactively identified the work as subpar and told us theyâ d do it over for free, which they did and the redo was great. I didnâ t even have to ask. Not many companies stand behind their work to this degree."

"Scott remodeled my bathroom and I was extremely impressed with the quality of his work. He completely transformed the space, installing a beautiful tile tub surround, tile floor, new toilet, and vanity. The new light fixture added the perfect finishing touch and the texture and paint were applied with precision and care. Not only was Scott professional and skilled, he was also very friendly and easy to work with. He listened to my ideas and offered helpful suggestions to make the most of the space. He was able to complete the job within the agreed upon time frame and kept the work area clean and organized throughout the project. I highly recommend this contractor for any remodeling needs, especially bathrooms. His attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction sets him apart from the competition. Definitely a job well done!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tiling can be DIY with the right tools and skills, but challenges like ensuring evenness and appropriate adhesion often warrant professional handling.

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.

On average, tiling a bathroom involves about 12 hours of labor, usually spread over two to three days to accommodate prep work and curing times. A professional tiler can often complete the installation in 6 to 8 hours, whereas a DIYer might take 10 to 16 hours. The total project time is influenced by factors like the bathroom layout, tile type, and necessary prep work, such as removing old tile. The process includes specific timelines for different areas; for example, tiling a floor takes about six hours, while a shower area can take six to ten hours. It is essential to allow for adequate curing time—typically 24 hours each—for the mortar, grout, and caulk, which is why the project extends over several days.

Altering the layout of your bathroom will make a big difference as moving or adding plumbing quickly inflates your total bill. While you can recoup more of your cost (in home value terms) by adding a bathroom, rearranging the layout won’t affect your home’s sticker value. However, strategic placements that allow more light or better flow may increase buyer interest.

A quality shower tiling project is a bathroom upgrade that can increase resale value. Bathroom remodels have the highest return on investments for any home update. Tiling a shower won’t offer the potential 70% ROI that a full bathroom remodel involving upgrading fixtures, installing storage, and a complete room retile will. However, you can expect an average return of 55% to 60% for this refresh.
