"The first week following the tune-up and replacement of the contactor panel was cooler outside so I did not notice that the air conditioner was not cranking on. The second week was hotter and I started noticing that my upstairs was unusually warm, and no air appeared to be moving. The beginning of the third week on Monday, I called Quality Heating to advise there was something wrong and was told a technician could not be scheduled for my home until Friday of that week. I was told by the man who was scheduling my appointment that the fix could be something as simple as resetting the breaker. I was told by the technician when he came out that Friday that his failure to reset the breaker was, in fact, the reason my air conditioner was not working. Once he'd made the repair, he failed to follow up to make sure everything was working properly. Thus I was without air conditioning for three weeks. Honestly, I would have expected the company to send someone out earlier than five days following my call to them that something was not right following the tune-up."

"I had the AC person out who had been servicing my AC as well as my mom’s for years and he told me the unit was shot and I needed to replace the whole thing. I called Pacific Air this morning, they came at noon, had it up in running 20 minutes later. Only charged me the service fee. While I am sad about the other guy trying to rip me off, I am so happy I called Pacific Air. An honest, fair, professional company."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The average cost to replace or install a new HVAC system is around $7,500. However, the price can range from $5,000 to $12,500, depending on factors like the size of your home, the type and brand of the unit, and your specific heating and cooling needs. If you only need to replace certain components, the cost will be lower; for example, a new AC unit can cost between $2,200 and $5,500, while a new furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000. If additional work like new ductwork is required, the total cost could be as high as $22,000. It's best to contact a local HVAC company for an accurate quote.

You will enjoy greater energy efficiency and save on your annual energy bills, with new, modern HVAC systems using 30% to 50% less energy than older models. Upgrading your HVAC system is also a great way to embrace new technology, such as smart thermostats, lighting, fan speed, and humidity from your phone or tablet.

Keeping your air filter clean is crucial for your heat pump's efficiency. As a general rule, you should check your air filter every 1 to 3 months. However, the actual frequency might vary depending on factors like the type of filter, indoor air quality, and the amount of dust and debris in your area. If you notice the filter is visibly dirty or clogged, it's a clear sign it needs attention sooner. Regular filter maintenance ensures proper airflow and helps your heat pump perform optimally, keeping your indoor air fresh and comfortable.

NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification is not legally required for HVAC technicians in most areas, but hiring a professional with this certification is highly recommended. NATE-certified technicians demonstrated their expertise and proficiency in different types of HVAC systems, offering assurance of quality service. It's a voluntary certification, yet it indicates a commitment to professionalism and ongoing training. Choosing a NATE-certified technician often means you're working with someone who is up-to-date on industry standards and best practices, which can lead to better service, energy efficiency, and long-term cost savings.

Yes. In fact, not only are AC tuneups worth it, but they’re actually necessary to keep your air conditioner in good condition, improve its efficiency, and potentially prevent major damage. Experts recommend getting a tuneup at least once per year. In most cases, you’ll want to schedule it during the spring so that you can address any issues before the hottest months of the year.
