Customers say: True professional

"Taking on a backyard renovation can be overwhelming. I contacted a few companies before I spoke with Steve from Coastal Pavers. We scheduled a time to meet and he was very professional, punctual and even sent over a rendering of the layout. The price was fair and his crew and project manager Fernando finished ahead of schedule. There were a few adjustments I was able to make a long the way and luckily it did not effect the completion date. The pavers and turf look beautiful and I have peace of mind knowing the quality and craftsman will last for decades. I highly recommend Coastal Pavers and will be using them again."

"Caleb did a fantastic job bringing our patio back to life! He corrected a standing water issue with a drainage problem we didn't know we had. He replaced broken flagstones and re-grouted the whole patio. It looks like new and we couldn't be more pleased! Next he will be fixing our irrigation system and give us a new landscape design. He is a pleasure to work with! He keeps you informed on what he finds throughout the project and how it should be corrected. He also gave us some good suggestions on what still needs to be done. The best part is he will work with you according to your time frame. Looking forward to working with him in the future and completing our landscape needs."

"TLDR: Kent is a talented artist who has mastered i. the fine line in landscaping between aesthetics and practical use and ii. the rare and valuable business skill of being customer-centric. We had a big job with his team and we were so happy with the end result and the relationship we built along the way that I promised Kent a review that came from the heart - it's a bit long but here it goes. My first impression of Kent was of an artist and a very-talented one at that - bringing vision and experience to the table. My family had just bought a new house in the perfect canyon lot we always wanted, but the house needed some TLC. We wanted to transform our front and backyard into something that corresponded to our dream backyard for the next 10-20 years for our kids to grow up and enjoy in. Although we had some idea of what we wanted, we were certainly not landscaping experts and several of our ideas were quite rough around the edges. We needed someone who was flexible to our vision but could help us connect the dots on how to get there taking into account practical application and aesthetics. Kent did just that. His first time over he spent time aligning with us on our vision and he professionally called out some of the flaws in our thinking. We recognized a lot of what he said made sense and started to mold our vision around some of those insights. To solidify the idea, he brought out his sketch book and literally drew his vision for our backyard in two sketches (sounds corny, but frankly - it showed his artistry excellence and care for the customer). Once that was done and we aligned on the game plan - Kent and his team started immediately within the next 2-3 days. It was quite a thing to watch his team of 10-20 employees at any given day tear ad rebuild my backyard within 2-3 weeks. At a high-level, Kent's scope of work was as follows: - demo'd old concrete/pavers and re-poured new colored concrete - demo'd old patio cover and installed a giant alumawood patio cover - moved a ton of dirt around with an excavator to re-level the area behind our backyard - re-did drainage to stop water from pooling/staining concrete (as it was before) - removed several trees and ground the stumps (some over 70 ft tall!) - installed new queen and multi-trunked king palms - installed planters with low-maintenance plants (succulents, ice plants, etc) and new stations for the automated drip system - Built our barrel sauna for us and ran new 220V electrical line - installed a section of artificial sod that looked gorgeous As you can imagine from the size of the project, there were some snags that happened along the way: an accidental broken window, a structural issue with the patio cover, concrete discoloration due to the wildly rainy season we had in March-April, among some other minor items. However, what impressed me the most is how if you give Kent and team the chance to fix it, they WILL fix it. Although discussions on such snags and remedying it are never usually straight-forward, in the end what really mattered to me is that Kent showed the ownership to set us - as his customers up for success - owned up to those snags being his responsibility and remedied it with professionalism and always remaining customer-centric. I appreciate Kent and his son - Kacen - very much and very much plan to work with them on future projects in the near future."

"Our yard was filled with uneven dirt and bugs before SD Premier came along. Now that the job is done, we love being outside every day! They did our yard from scratch (design, hardscape - pavers, landscape - turf, plants and lights). Not only does our yard look beautiful during the day, but it's even more gorgeous at night! All the lighting / uplighting is more than anything I even imagined. Emily walked us through every step of the way. First, the consultation. We talked about our style and our vision. Something low key and an area for our kids. As we walked through our space we talked through what we like to do (hobbies, for fun, and our lifestyle overall). We initially wanted to do concrete, but after meeting with her and doing some research we were sold on pavers. Then (still during the consultation) we walked through paver options. She brought a few different books and left them with us to look through & review after meeting with her. A few days later we got the proposal. We reviewed it in detail, asked all our questions and decided up upgrade our options! We figured "do it once, and do it right!" She came back with an updated proposal, we signed and hit the ground running! The team came to measure, demo, cut pavers, compact the soil - you name it! They did EVERYTHING. What I loved most is that there was a specific person / team (or person) specialized in each piece. So if the pavers needed to be cut, the right team came to do that. Then when it came to putting in electrical, we had an electrician do that. When it came to landscape (planting, soil, etc) - we had a landscape person do that, too! No shortcuts here! Everyone was on time everyday and they made the time count. No slacking, no excessive breaks - just some dedicated people passionately doing what they love. From start to finish, we were done in about 1 month! That's amazing for a 1,170 sq foot job. Lucky for us, we found Emily by way of a neighbor who had hired her to work on their yard. The stars aligned! We couldn't be happier and love our yard so much. Our kids love it even more! Emily is amazing and a true gem. She is consistent, communicative, creative, passionate and she / her team are some of the best we've ever worked with! We couldn't have gone with a better company. If you're looking for quality, creative, friendly, reliable, honest service from a company that doesn't take any shortcuts - look no further this is YOUR TEAM! Emily, Andre + teamster are A+++++++ all the way!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can do German schmear on stone. You can account for the more textured and rough surface of stone by using a large paintbrush instead of a putty knife. A brush allows you to drag mortar across the stone to get it into all the cracks and crevices. However, a brush will cover more of the surface, so you may need a wet sponge to scrub excess mortar and expose more of your stone.

Choosing the right paint color for your brick house can be a daunting task. A great strategy is to find painted brick houses that you like and try to replicate the look by researching their colors or asking the homeowners for the specific paint color code.

If you're looking for specific ideas, several colors work well on brick. Different shades of white, such as off-white or cream-white, can create a modern, timeless, and classic look that is unlikely to go out of style. For a more contemporary aesthetic, you might consider a matte black tone. Other popular choices include gray, blue, and sage green.

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.

Cobblestone is not a type of rock but a term for a mosaic or rock laid down as a surface. It used to be made from the closest available stone but now can be made from nearly any hard rock, as machining has made shaping the stone much easier and cheaper.

A chimney cleaning brick or log can help loosen creosote between professional chimney cleaning appointments. Although they can help keep your chimney cleaner, they are not a substitute for chimney sweeping and are not meant to be used regularly.
