"Frederick Scafani, the owner of FSP General Contractors, has done a terrible job with our kitchen tile flooring — the tiles are chipped, lippage is large, and all the grout is cracking and coming out. He has taken an illegal amount of deposit ($3000 when $1000 is the legal limit in CA) and has not fixed his work or returned our deposit. He has not responded to phone or emails. There were many other things that went wrong, including him not tapping water pipes and flooding the kitchen and hallway, with water leaking down to the floor below, but I’ll focus this review specifically on tile. I would highly advise to steer clear of Fred. Tile installation and grout: $5,840 Tiles + delivery: $1,295.86"

Ben did two projects for us… a kitchen remodel and new foyer, and then a couple years later a bathroom, new closet, wood stove hearth and hardwood floors and paint throughout our downstairs. He is super detail oriented to the point of being almost OCD. Our projects turned out great and on budget. The chemicals in a water softener can wear down the anode rod in the heater and shorten its life span. However, for most people, the benefits of the softener outweigh this potential drawback.

Have a plumber inspect the anode rod annually for damage, as replacing the anode rod is far less expensive than replacing the entire water heater.

Boilers are used mainly for central heating, and water heaters are used for ordinary household water use. In fact, a conventional boiler works best if your home already has a water heater system in place. Sometimes a boiler can be combined with indirect water heaters. But there are also premade combination boiler heaters.

You can and should vent the gas from your hot water heater to the outside of your home. Traditionally, these gases were vented back to other gas appliances, like stoves or furnaces, but many jurisdictions have outlawed this practice due to the risks it provides. 

Most water heaters today use atmospheric venting that exhausts the gas out of the home through a pipe.
