"Russ was amazing to work with. Very professional and easy to get ahold of when we had questions. He came out multiple times to ensure that we had the proper stain to match the floors. He worked on our time frame as we had contractors we were working around. I would recommend him to anyone looking to refinish a staircase."

"I needed a couple of French drains cleaned out. He discovered all kinds of roots to be the cause of the problem. I thought I was going to have to replace the drains but he took care of my issue and exceeded my expectations."

"We had a problem with a side window that leaked when we would get driving rains. I contacted Angi to get estimates. As usual I got some what interested phone calls, some saying they would come out but never did. I ended up with three licensed contractors that were close in prices. We ended up going with Josh at G C Bauer inc, our decision was based upon how he presented his company, didn't give me a sales pitch but was a straight shooter. The work went very well, we took a one week vacation in the middle of the job, had a couple issues with permits and inspector schedules. Josh and his crew managed very well with all the forced interuptions. They replaced the two window assemblies, replaced 4 dry rotted studs and window frame work, exterior siding and trim work. They removed and replaced a large area of interior sheet rock, taped, plastered and textured the wall. We are very happy with there work, they stayed on budget. We would hire him again in the future."

"Lano and his crew were human angels - fantastic job on the yards and he even sent us two crew members with late notice on our part the next day to carry out the larger furniture! They work quickly and efficiently and the price was very fair! Love these guys and will recommend them to everyone I know!!"

"Vertex has completed more than one project for me but I especially want to mention the amazing job they did replacing the siding on my home. The whole process was smooth, communication was great and they kept everything clean from start to finish. I’m very happy with the results and would definitely recommend them!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Duration varies by project size, but average-sized homes typically take a weeks.

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.
